Alyson Hannigan spills “American Reunion” plot details

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: So far, the entire cast of the original “American Pie” films have agreed to return for Universal’s comedy sequel “American Reunion,” from Jason Biggs and Seann William Scott to Tara Reid and Mena Suvari.

Up until this point, however, we didn’t know what to expect beyond gratuitous nudity, toilet humor and one or two lessons about the difficulties of growing older. But “How I Met Your Mother” star Alyson Hannigan, who was a band camp geek long before she joined that hit sitcom, opened up to EW about plot details, filling in story gaps for the film that’s going to pick up where 2003’s “American Wedding” left off.

“We’ll, we’re still married,” she said of her character and Biggs’ protagonist, the hapless Jim. “And we have a child. So we’re navigating the waters of parenthood and how that changes the dynamics of a relationship. But also they’re going back to their high school reunion and so there’s some nostalgia there of, ‘Aw, remember what we were like when we first met?’ That kind of stuff. It’s really nice.

“I really love that relationship and they’ve stayed true to it,” Hannigan continued. “The great thing about this franchise is that, of course, there’s the raunchy humor but here’s also a lot of heart to it. And this fourth movie does not miss the boat on that at all.”

“American Reunion” filming is underway, targeting an April 6, 2012 release date.
