Uncensored, NSFW “Dragon Tattoo” poster hits

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: I can’t remember the last time we saw so much controversy over a film’s poster.

Several different version of a poster for David Fincher’s “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” remake have made the rounds over the last few weeks, one might think that the movie was due in theaters this Friday.

It’s not. We won’t see Fincher’s take on Stieg Larsson’s best-selling novel until Christmas. But first there was a leaked, international, red-band trailer for the film. Then a green-band U.S. version. Then a censored poster that featured a topless (but cloaked) Rooney Mara as goth hacker Lisbeth Salander. And now, finally, a blatant, topless shot of Mara and Daniel Craig, courtesy of IMP Awards.

Give the people what they want, I say.

Is any of this making you more excited to see the film? Or is it just keep the film’s marketing department busy as they wait for the next round of promotions to plug Fincher’s adaptation? We’ll see if it matters once tickets can be sold. In the meantime, here’s the NSFW “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” poster that was released today. Be sure to grab Larsson’s book and watch the first “Tattoo” adaptation, a Swedish gem that heavily influences Fincher’s take on the source material.

The U.S. version of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” hits theaters on Dec. 21.
