Scotty McCreery opens up about “Idol,” Jack Black and his favorite celebrity mentor

By Sean O’Connell “American Idol” winner Scotty McCreery sat down for a lengthy interview with the Charlotte Observer, the largest paper in his home state of North Carolina, where he talked about a side range of topics including his alleged “snub” of Jack Black during the “Idol” finale, his opinion of the choreographed group-sing routines, his troubles during Hollywood week, and his relationship with the “Idol” judges and mentor Jimmy Iovine.

If you are a McCreey fan, or are just interested in the behind-the-scenes tricks of season 10, it is an interesting read (view it here).

When it comes to McCreery’s unintentional snub of comedian Black, Scotty admits he never saw the Hollywood star on the stage and that the excitement of the moment got the better of him.

“If I had, I would have given him a hug,” Scotty said. “It’s Jack Black!”

McCreery calls Iovine “a good guy” and described Aerosmith frontman as being “like a grandparent” to the contestants (ouch!) As for his favorite celebrity mentor, McCreery said it was of the Black Eyed Peas.
