Evangeline Lilly joins Peter Jackson’s “Hobbit”

Hollywoodnews.com: “Lost” star Evangeline Lilly always has had a pixie, elfin cuteness about her. Now she’s putting it to very good use.
Peter Jackson has revealed that he has cast the actress in his upcoming, two-part adaptation on J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit,” confirmed on the director’s open-door Facebook page.
“Evangeline Lilly will be playing a new character—the Woodland Elf, Tauriel. Her name means ‘daughter of Mirkwood’ and, beyond that, we must leave you guessing! (No, there is no romantic connection to Legolas.) What is not a secret is how talented and compelling an actress Evangeline is; we are thrilled and excited she will be the one to bring our first true Sylvan Elf to life,” Jackson said.
He also tells fans that Barry Humphries, whose casting was announced earlier, will portray the Goblin King “in much the way Andy Serkis created Gollum” with the “delicate sensitivity and emotional depth this character deserves.”
I continue to love how Jackson uses social media to keep “Hobbit” fans up to date. They have a long wait until the first part hits theaters December 2012, and the Facebook page has become a must-visit site to keep people informed and entertained.
