Cameron Diaz is the “Hollywood Movie Star of the Week”

By Sean O’Connell Cameron Diaz is largely unpredictable, and has been for decades.

Whereas most celebrities shy away from relationship questions, Diaz talks about current beau Alex Rodriguez and co-stars with former flame Justin Timberlake. (The two are in “Bad Teacher” together, which opens everywhere today.)

Those who say she always plays the bubbly blonde who’s dying to be loved will be gut-checked by “Teacher,” which shows Diaz in her most unflattering light. She plays a disdainful gold digger forced to go back to teaching when her “big catch” of a wealthy fiancée spits the hook.

But Diaz isn’t one to coast on looks. She regularly challenges herself by accepting parts in films by Oliver Stone, Martin Scorsese and Curtis Hanson. For her next picture, she’s trying her hand at a Coen Brothers film. Not for the fainthearted.

And then there are those who are ready to dismiss Diaz as a prissy A-lister. To them, I mention that she’s about to join Bear Grylls’ “Man vs. Wild.”

But one of the things we’ve always like about Diaz is her ability to make herself the butt of the joke, as evidenced by her re-enactment of the famous popcorn-feeding Super Bowl shot on David Letterman.

And that’s why we we’ve loved Diaz for years, and why we are very pleased to announce that Cameron Diaz has been named our “Hollywood Movie Star of the Week.”
