Will Smith, Jay-Z want Thompson for “Annie”

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Here’s a sentence I never thought I’d write, but Jay-Z might collaborate with Emma Thompson.

The project in question that is attracting these diverse talents is Will Smith’s in-development of an “Annie” remake, which Jay-Z will co-produce. Now insiders are telling Vulture that Smith and Z are “in negotiations” with Thompson – who won the Oscar for adapting “Sense and Sensibility” – to write their “Annie” script with Smith’s daughter, Willow, in mind.

The partnership isn’t that far-fetched. As Vulture cites, Thompson and Smith currently are filming “Men In Black III” together, while Jay-Z, Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith “all served as co-producers of the Broadway musical Fela!, nominated for eleven Tony awards last year.”
