Tom Hanks says Pixar “working on” fourth “Toy Story”
By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: From the “Take this with a grain of salt” department comes news of a potential fourth “Toy Story” film, courtesy of Tom Hanks.
The actor has been making the rounds lately, heavily promoting his upcoming directorial effort “Larry Crowne.” But while speaking with the BBC Breakfast News, Hanks was asked about the Pixar franchise he’s lovingly involved in, and whether there might be another “Toy Story” film in our future.
“I think there will be yeah. Yeah, yeah,” Hanks reportedly said. “They’re working on it now. There you go.”
Are they? This is the first anyone is hearing about a fourth “Toy Story.” And Pixar’s pictures are planned year in advance.
There are very few reasons why Pixar would do another “Toy Story.” For starters, they had the perfect ending on Lee Unkrich’s “Toy Story 3.” Secondly, the characters are living on in short films such as “Hawaiian Vacation,” which ran before “Cars 2” this weekend. And then there is the heat Pixar is getting for cruising through “Cars 2” and failing to inject that animated sequel with Pixar heart.
But … and this is a big BUT … “Toy Story 3” is the highest-grossing Pixar film of all time, topping $400 million domestically. Could the studio be enticed to make another? Let’s hope not, but Hanks says it’s happening. We’ll see.
