“Angry Birds” film forthcoming

By Kim Palacios

hollywoodnews.com: Flying birds and endangered pigs will hit the big screen soon when a film rendition of Rovio’s “Angry Birds” is produced with the help of David Maisel. The Finnish company’s game is one of the best selling mobile apps in history, with more than 250 million downloads across all platforms.

Since Disney’s acquisition of Marvel, Maisel has racked up other executive producer credits, including those for “Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2,” “Hulk,” “Thor,” and “Captain America: The First Avenger.” Said Maisel of his involvement in the “Angry Birds” project, “There has been so much chatter about an ‘Angry Birds’ movie, but it’s now real…People are interacting with these characters six inches from them each time they play, and that creates an emotional connection…It’s a global thing that’s something I’ve never seen before. It will be exciting to expand within Hollywood.”

Said Rovio CEO Mikael Hed of Maisel’s involvement, “As a Special Advisor to Rovio, David will help build the company’s entertainment strategy and transition Rovio to new areas in the entertainment business…We welcome his experience and vision as we continue broadening our entertainment production scope at Rovio.”
