Meryl Streep in first “Iron Lady” teaser

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: For Oscar trackers, “The Iron Lady” is catnip. It’s an irresistible combination of Academy-friendly factors all converging in a perfect storm of Oscar glory: a politician’s biopic loaded with Oscar-caliber talents (Meryl Streep, Jim Broadbent) distributed by the Weinstein Company and directed by British theater talent Phyllida Lloyd.

The cast and crew should be very busy on Oscar eve.

Now all that’s left is for the film, about Margaret Thatcher’s rise to the Prime Minister position, to be good! Based on the international trailer that arrived online (via The Guardian), Lloyd and her cast will deliver.

You can almost hear Harvey Weinstein relying on the film’s tagline for his Oscar campaign: “That’s the tone that we want to strike.”

“The Iron Lady” will be in theaters on Dec. 16.
