Betty Ford Passes Away at 93
HollywoodNews.com: The former first lady, Betty Ford, died on Friday, according to a family friend. The 93-year-old founded the Betty Ford Center, a treatment hospital for alcohol and drug addiction in California. Her death was confirmed by chairman emeritus of the Ford Foundation, Marty Allen.
According to Access Hollywood, Betty’s own “triumph over drug and alcohol addiction became a beacon of hope for addicts and the inspiration for her Betty Ford Center.” She was reportedly modest about her accomplishments, and helped thousands of people overcome their addictions.
The wife of former president, Gerald Ford (who also died at age 93) “pressed for abortion rights and the Equal Rights Amendment”. She also fought breast cancer and suffered from severe arthritis, all while battling addictions of her own.
