“Space Invaders” heading to the big screen

By Sean O’Connell At least it’s not another superhero.

Instead, producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Odd Lot Entertainment’s Gigi Pritzker plan on bringing the classic video game “Space Invaders” to the big screen, THR reports. Now that they’ve optioned the rights to the title, the producers are searching for the right writer.

“Space Invaders” was a simplified point-and-shoot game from the 1980s that had no storyline, so I wonder what they’ll do for a film to separate it from something like “Skyline,” “District 9” or “Battle: Los Angeles.”

As THR notes, this is the latest in a line of ‘80s-inspired projects for di Bonaventura, who also produced the “Transformers” and “G.I. Joe” films. He’s currently working on an “Asteroids” film (also based on a video game) and a “Pet Sematary” remake.
