TNT renews “Falling Skies” for second season

By Sean O’Connell Hopes for TNT’s sci-fi drama “Falling Skies” are rising.

The network announced that it has renewed the show for a second season. The Steven Spielberg-produced show has been guaranteed 10 new episodes, which will begin airing next summer, according to The Wrap.

The show posted an 8-million-person viewership since bowing in June, with 3.8 million of those viewers “falling in the coveted audience group of adults, 18- to 49-years-old,” the site reports. That was enough for TNT to renew the show and give it creative life.

Television serials like “Skies” only benefit from network confidence, as writers now are able to plan longterm for characters on the show, giving stars like Noah Wyle the chance to flesh out their performances and deliver a slow-building storyline fans can sink their teeth into.
