Robert Downey Jr. explodes through “Sherlock Holmes 2” trailer

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Guy Ritchie’s 2009 adventure “Sherlock Holmes” was a come-out-of-nowhere hit. Critics hopped on board, giving the film a 70% Fresh grade on Rotten Tomatoes. And audiences lapped up Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law as Holmes and Watson, respectively, to the tune of $524 million in worldwide grosses.

But can lightning strike the same franchise a second time?

We are about to find out as Ritchie, Downey and Law reunite for “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” which will be in theaters this December. Trailers for the new film will be attached to “Harry Potter” this weekend (as both are Warner properties), but we have it below, thanks to BleedingCool. Here you go:

Trains! Machine guns! A fortune-telling gypsy played by Noomi Rapace! Downey in drag! What do you think? There’s plenty more action. And I still love Downey’s winking, self-aggrandizing take on the legendary sleuth. Also, Jared Harris is excellent casting as Moriarty, and I’m glad they are still keeping him under wraps in the teaser clip.

“A Game of Shadows” will be in theaters this December.

Robert Downey is awesome. Can’t wait to see this. It will be a great sequel.
