Can the “Harry Potter” finale break the top opening weekend record?

By Kim Palacios

hollywoodnews.com: “The Dark Knight” currently holds the record for biggest opening weekend, with $158M in revenues. Some are speculating that “Harry Potter” will beat it out given its opening night results—but, will it? “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” shattered the opening night record, becoming the top grossing of all time at $92.1M. But, can it make another $66M on Saturday and Sunday?

Taking a look at its predecessor, “New Moon”, which has now been bumped down to having earned the second highest opening night revenues, the answer may be yes. “New Moon” earned an additional $70M on the Saturday and Sunday following its Friday release—with similar results, the new “Harry Potter,” which is the series finale, will rise to number one.
