Celebs answer call to tweet about “Carmageddon”

By Kim Palacios

hollywoodnews.com: More than 30 celebrities responded to the Los Angeles Police Department’s request to help get the word out about what has become known as “Carmageddon”. The 405 Freeway (a major thoroughfare traveled daily by hundreds of thousands of L.A. area residents) was closed on Friday night and will remain so until Monday morning due to a widening project that requires the demolition of the Mulholland Bridge.

Per the Los Angeles Times, the PD issued an official statement of thank you, estimating that, added together, info about the road closure reached upwards of 100 million followers. Among celebrities who tweeted were Conan O’Brien, Kim Kardashian, Ashton Kutcher, Adam Levine, Christina Applegate, and Ryan Seacrest.

Said L.A. Mayor Villaraigosa of the message, “There has been a lot of hype, and well-intentioned hype, because we wanted to make sure people really got the message: stay at home!”

Other celebrities commented on their own plans not to worsen a potential traffic nightmare. Tweeted Paris Hilton, “I’m not leaving my house to drive anywhere this weekend.”
