Netflix offers refund due to streaming outage

By Sean O’Connell Netflix users might wake up to a discount offer from the entertainment-streaming giant waiting in their inboxes this morning.

That’s because the service went down Sunday night for several hours due to “an internal technology system issue that we identified and fixed,” a rep for the company told

This on the heels of an announcement that Netflix was increasing its rates, a move that angered customers in the short term and continues to cause ripples throughout the streaming community.

Sensing a disturbance in Netflix’s force, Blockbuster pounced, Tweeting, “Netflix customers: seeing red? We have the newest releases, plus Blu-ray and games included.”

Well played.

As for Netflix, they gave most customers a link to receive a 3% refund on monthly subscription costs. Was it enough? Will the problems continue? We shall see.
