“Captain America” reviews hit the Web, largely positive

Hollywoodnews.com: The Internet exploded last night with reviews for Joe Johnston’s “Captain America: The First Avenger,” but if you want to go into the movie on Friday unspoiled, you might want to steer clear of the following links. Just know that the overall response was extremely positive, and buy your ticket with the other fans this weekend.
How positive? Well, Drew McWeeny at HitFix says that Johnston’s Marvel movie is “one of their very best,” and he suspects the film “will send audiences out of the theater rabid to see what’s next.”
Jeff Wells at Hollywood Elsewhere went after the naysayers, claiming, “Anyone who comes out of Captain America saying ‘meh, it’s mildly okay’ is aesthetically blocked. They just don’t get it. Captain America moves, mad-dashes, soars, whooshes, runs, delights & barrel-asses. It’s pure art direction, pure mood, and all of a piece. And mostly unpredictable.”
That’s because Anne Thompson already rained on the parade, Tweeting after last night’s press screening that the film “left me cold. Back when, this material fed Raiders, and more recently, Inglourious Basterds. Marvel played it too straight.”
Decide for yourself when “Captain America” opens everywhere this Friday.
