Two new “Twilight: Breaking Dawn” clips shown at Comic-Con

By Kim Palacios

hollywoodnews.com: “Don’t take too long, Mrs. Cullen,” says Edward in one of the two clips shown this morning at the “Twilight: Breaking Dawn” sneak preview at Comic-Con. The line appeared in Stephenie Meyer’s original book and is echoed in the film. The line was heard during the second clip shown to several thousand fans who gathered to see the preview and hear from director Bill Condon and some of the film’s stars. Here are a few details on what attendees saw:

The aforementioned clip took place on Isle Esme, and showed Edward carrying Bella over the threshold of the Cullens’ private home. On display were new (and mixed) emotions felt by Edward and Bella as they shared space as husband and wife. Alongside hesitation and shyness were joy and lust, (exhibited masterfully, with few words, by each actor). This scene shown leads up to one of the most anticipated (by fans) and most discussed (by Edward and Bella) character turning points: the consummation of their relationship. Fans particularly appreciated Condon’s injection of humor into Bella’s anticipation of intimacy with Edward, showing a mini-panic attack through extreme body language (e.g., balking at the skimpy lingerie Alice has packed); and quick, energetic editorial cuts made the scene come alive.

The other clip (which was shown first) did not originally appear in Meyer’s “Breaking Dawn,” Condon admitted, but was essential to highlighting Jacob’s predicament of deep allegiance to both saving Bella’s humanity and honoring the wolf pack and the beliefs of his tribe. The clip showed an initial interaction between Jacob, Carlisle, and Esme, during which Jacob dubiously aligned himself with the Cullens. Directly following, he was shown telling the wolves that he must break from them for the time being in order to get close enough to the Cullens to save Bella and achieve his goal. The scene showcased Jacob’s sense of duty, while highlighting, through conflict, his character’s growth.
