Andrew Garfield Given Blessing By Tobey Maguire To Play ‘Spider-Man’

HollywoodNews.com: At the press conference for the upcoming film, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’, 27-year-old Andrew Garfield expressed his admiration for the previous Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire. The newcomer was asked if he ever talked to Tobey directly.

Andrew responded, “I love Tobey Maguire’s interpretation of the character.” The ‘Social Network’ actor reveals, “I had the wonderful fortune of meeting [Tobey] after we finished shooting, I didn’t seek him out, but he sent a very, very, very nice email I think once it was announced to [the producer] basically giving me his blessing. It meant the world to me because I respect him so much as an actor generally, and especially what he did with the role that I’m now assuming,” according to Celebuzz.com.

Spider-Man newbie Andrew explained his admiration for the first film, which starred Tobey. He revealed, “I watched it back-to-back. I watched it twice in a row. I liked that story.” The film is set to be released July 3, 2012, according to IMDb.

What do you think about Tobey giving his blessing to new ‘Spidey’ Andrew? Are you looking forward to next summer?
