“Snow White and the Huntsman” producers defend film at Comic-Con

hollywoodnews.com: The film is not yet in production—so what did “Snow White and The Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders and producers Joe Roth and Palak Patel have to share yesterday at Comic-Con? It was all about controlling the message about the competing Snow White films.
Fans were assured three things by Roth, whose voice was the strongest when it came to addressing skepticism about whether two films with identical characters could do well in the same year. In addition to highlighting vast differences (he likened the dark, epic approach that will be taken with “Snow White and the Huntsman” to the “Lord of the Rings” films), and saying that release dates separated by ten weeks would diminish real and perceived competition, Roth insisted that moviegoers are most attracted to genre—not plot—and that some fantasy fans were likely to see both Snow White films.
In the absence of footage from the film itself a short reel of Rupert Sanders’ work was shown—specifically commercials for video games such as “Halo 3” and “Call of Duty: Black Ops” which ran the gamut from evocative to fun. Finally, fans were shown a short, narrated clip that viewed like a movie trailer, utilizing unknown actors to stand in as Snow White characters. The clip, edited by Sanders, was another tactic meant to showcase his talent and give a sense for how “Snow White and the Huntsman” will look and feel under his direction. Filming for “Snow White and the Huntsman” begins in England next week.
