Angelina Jolie honored by Sarajevo Film Festival

By Sean O’Connell Angelina Jolie’s directorial debut hasn’t even seen the light of day yet an already she’s being honored at a major film festival.

The Sarajevo Film Festival presented Jolie with its “Heart of Sarajevo” award for the work she did on “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” a romantic drama about a forbidden love set against the backdrop of the Bosnian Civil War.

“I spent last year with some wonderful people from this country,” Jolie said while accepting the award in Bosnia and Herzegovina. “I have never worked with such a disciplined and talented crew.”

Jolie’s honorary prize was given for her humanitarian efforts and “active engagement in the complexities of the real world,” according to the fest.

And we’ll get to see the fruit of her labor later this year, as FilmDistrict plans to release “Blood and Honey” on Dec. 23. Could it be a dark horse contender in the still shaping awards race?
