Brad Pitt’s “World War Z” enters busy December release fray
By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: December 2012 was so stacked with potential blockbusters, it scared Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, “Man of Steel,” away. But another major motion picture just embraced the challenge by grabbing a release date right in the thick of the box office competition.
Marc Forster’s “World War Z,” an adaptation of Max Brooks’ zombie-thriller novel, circled Dec. 21, 2012 as its new release date. The film stars Brad Pitt and Mireille Enos as survivors of a war against the undead that decimates the planet.
So what films will “World War” battle at the box? Oh, maybe you’ve heard of Peter Jackson’s planned “Hobbit” adaptation? Or maybe Ang Lee’s adaptation of “The Life of Pi?” And how about “The Lone Ranger,” with Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp? Or did we mention Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained,” which is tentatively opening on Dec. 26?
So yeah, it’s busy. But if Forster and Pitt build a solid thriller, audiences will come. Paramount must have some confidence in the film if they’re willing to step into the fray where “Man of Steel” soared out.
Of the films mentioned above, which ones are you most looking forward to? Let us know below.
