Sesame Street’s Bert and Ernie are totally platonic

By Kim Palacios

hollywoodnews.com: After decades of speculation, an official announcement has been made: puppets Bert and Ernie of Sesame Street fame have a relationship that is totally platonic. Not only did the Sesame Workshop go so far as to deny an amorous relationship between the two, a representative confirmed that neither is gay.

“Bert and Ernie are best friends,” said the organization via its Facebook account after an online petition to learn the puppets’ sexual orientation gained momentum. “They were created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves. Even though they are identified as male characters and possess many human traits and characteristics … they remain puppets, and do not have a sexual orientation.”
