At least 4 dead, 24 injured following stage collapse at Sugarland show

By Kim Palacios High winds are partially to blame for the accident that killed at least four and injured twenty-four onlookers at the Indiana State Fair tonight, as Sugarland prepared to perform. Rigging related to stage lighting came loose amid the gusting winds, sending the equipment falling to strike exposed members of the crowd.

According to Associated Press reports, injured persons were taken to Methodist Hospital. It is further reported that storm warnings had been issued with evacuation precautions already underway at the time of the tragedy.

Members of Sugarland asked for prayers for those impacted by the accident, saying the following in a statement on the band’s official web site: “We are all right after our stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair tonight. Many of our fans and friends in Indianapolis may not be. Please keep them in your thoughts, prayers, or whatever form of strength you are able to send. They need you. Thank you.”
