Batwing takes flight on “The Dark Knight Rises”

Hollywoodnews.com: Where does he get those wonderful toys!?

Back in June, Frederick Roche, a professional location sound recordist and boom operator from London, tweeted some interesting information about Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, “The Dark Knight Rises.”

@Freddie_Z_Roche: “Inside Info, they are Building 2 Attack Helicopters in the same design as the Bat Mobile from The Dark Knight! BOOM.”

The ‘Attack Helicopters’ were described as a cross between the Tumbler (the Wayne Enterprises military vehicle re-purposed as Batman’s Batmobile) and a Blackhawk helicopter. Batman-News has posted the first pictures (and videos!) of Batman’s new ride — affectionately referred to as the Batwing by us geeks.

The Batwing from Tim Burton’s 1989 “Batman” was one of my all-time favorite toys as a kid. While this vehicle is decidedly more bad-ass, it’s certainly not as iconic as Burton’s.

Check out these videos of Batman flying the Batwing through the streets of Gotham:

Written by David Goyer and Jonathan Nolan, “The Dark Knight Rises” stars Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard.

The film is set to release on July 20, 2012.
