Johnny Depp in first “Rum Diary” trailer

Hollywoodnews.com: We have had so many stories about films that Johnny Depp may do (“Pirates 5”) and may not do (“The Lone Ranger”) that it’s refreshing to actually have a trailer for a Depp feature that we know will be in theaters this fall.

That would be “The Rum Diary,” which brings the Oscar nominee back to the realm of Hunter S. Thompson (after “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”), where he’ll play Paul Kemp, a reporter for a rundown newspaper in the Caribbean who finds himself going through a crisis.

Bruce Robinson writes and directs this adaptation of Thompson’s novel, which also stars Amber Heard, Richard Jenkins and Aaron Eckhart. ET Online hosted the first official trailer for the adventure-drama, which opens everywhere on Oct. 28.
