Kelly Osbourne: Lady Gaga copied Annie Lenox at the VMAs
By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: A look at Annie Lenox’s 1984 Grammy Awards performance has found some people questioning whether Lady Gaga’s alter ego Jo Calderone copied the Eurythmics lead singer. Gaga was initially unrecognizable on Sunday night when she opened the 2011 Video Music Awards dressed in drag, staying in character all night as Jersey boy Jo Calderone.
The similarities between Lenox’s Grammy costume and Gaga’s VMA getup are striking: the dark jacket, the dramatic black bouffant, the 60s-era dance moves. However, where Gaga sported an ill-fitted jersey tee beneath her jacket, Lenox wore a more flattering black silk shirt and patterned silk tie.
This isn’t the first time Gaga has been implicated as a copycat. Some claimed uncanny similarities between “Born This Way” and Madonna’s “Express Yourself.” Also, Bette Midler recently accused Gaga of copying her mermaid in a wheelchair stage routine. And it was fellow celeb Kelly Osbourne who was vocal about Gaga’s presentation as Jo Calderone, saying “I love lady gaga but I wish she would start giving credit where credit is due!”
