George Clooney gets “married” in Norway? – AWARDS ALLEY

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: It might be George Clooney’s most convincing performance.

No, I’m not talking about his memorable turn as a stretched-thin father of two independent daughters in Alexander Payne’s “The Descendants” (though I do think the Oscar winner is fantastic in that part, and will ride the film’s momentum to a well-deserved Oscar nomination).

Instead, I’m referencing a Norwegian commercial that is making the rounds this morning which shows legendary bachelor tying the knot. Sort of. See for yourself:

The commercial, for the Norwegian bank DnB Nor, cleverly riffs on Todd Phillips’ “The Hangover,” with a beautiful blonde waking up after a whirlwind night that finds her marrying the “Ocean’s 11” star. Hollywood actors regularly appear in commercials overseas, yet rarely are they as amusing as this clip Clooney did for the bank.

We all know how Clooney feels about marriage. He tried it once, with Talia Balsam, and it didn’t fit him. But this commercial reminds us how willing Clooney is to poke fun at his “image” for the benefit of a well-timed joke. Envisioning a lengthy Oscar season with jokesters (and close friends) Clooney and Brad Pitt – who could get into the race for “Moneyball” – just makes me smile. How about you? Do you like the ad? Do you get the joke? Let us know below.
