Katie Holmes cast as Slutty Pumpkin on “How I Met Your Mother”

Hollywoodnews.com: While her “Dawson’s Creek” co-star Michelle Williams earns Oscar nominations and indie cred, Katie Holmes appears content to work infrequently and spend time with her world-famous husband (Tom Cruise) and their daughter.
But a role on a hit sitcom has lured Holmes back to the small screen.
The actress, most recently spotted in the late summer horror pic “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark,” is joining the cast of CBS’ hit show “How I Met Your Mother,” according to Vulture. She has been cast as Slutty Pumpkin, the girl who Ted (Josh Radnor) met at a Halloween party before losing touch. She is the proverbial “one that got away” in the show’s lore, and could go a long way toward tying up the sitcom’s big-time loose ends.
“Katie is a lovely and talented actress, which is why we’ve saved for her perhaps the most classily named character in our show’s history,” said “HIMYM” co-creator Craig Thomas, calling Holmes’ casting in the pivotal role “literally six seasons in the making.”
Holmes next appears in Adam Sandler’s “Jack and Jill,” out in November.
