Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock in “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” trailer – AWARDS ALLEY

Hollywoodnews.com: When it comes to the Oscars, few directors have a better track record than Stephen Daldry. All three of his feature-length directorial efforts have been nominated for Best Picture (“Billy Elliot,” “The Hours” and “The Reader”), which is why trackers anxiously are awaiting the first glance at his upcoming film, an adaptation of the best-selling novel “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.”

Wait no longer.

The film’s first trailer is below. The story follows a young boy who embarks on a search through New York City for the lock that matches a mysterious key left by his father when he was killed in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11. Even without Daldry’s involvement, we’d be interested. Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock co-star, and the 9/11 tie catches our eye to see how that material will be treated.

“Extremely Loud” will open in limited release on Christmas Day before going wider in January.
