Oscar: Academy stands by Brett Ratner, who then disgusts on Howard Stern – AWARDS ALLEY

By Sean O’Connell
hollywoodnews.com: Monday evening, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president Tom Sherak told Deadline that they will not take any action against “Tower Heist” director Brett Ratner – who’s producing next year’s Oscar telecast – for insensitive language he used regarding rehearsals being for “fags.” Ratner apologized, and that seems to be enough for the Academy.

I wonder if they made that decision before the loose-lipped filmmaker called in to Howard Stern’s satellite radio program and bragged about sleeping with Lindsay Lohan, testing the women he hopes to have sex with, attending a nudist colony with his mother, the size of his testicles, his penchant for oral sex, jerking off, his powerful sperm count, throwing water balloons at California surfers with the late Michael Jackson, and basically anything else that Stern brought up.

Seriously, the more I listened to Ratner’s appearance, the more I wondered how the Academy could possibly continue to stand by this guy.

Part of me appreciates Ratner’s candor. In a society where most people are incredibly protective of their opinions, Ratner speaks his mind. But is this the mouthpiece the Academy wants associated with the Oscars? My guess is no.

A lot was made about Ratner’s “fag” comment. What will people think of this Stern appearance? As is the case on a Stern show, the language is boisterous and crude. The topics are predominantly sexual. And Ratner, who appeared on the show on Monday, doesn’t seem to have learned a single thing from last weekend’s controversies.

I thought he was great on Howard. I’ll never fault anyone for honesty.

Hollywood is full of egomaniacal scumbags with herpes who are sex maniacs and cheat constantly, as Ratner revealed here. He’s just one of the honest ones. Doesn’t anyone else like hearing the truth?
