Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris” reveals DVD release date – AWARDS ALLEY

By Sean O’Connell
hollywoodnews.com: Oscar hopefuls released earlier in the year – i.e., not in November and December – face a serious challenge on staying on voters’ radars, so it’s interesting to see contenders like “The Help” and now “Midnight In Paris’ capitalize by grabbing key December dates for their DVD releases.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment announced that Woody Allen’s summer hit will reach DVD and Blu-ray on Dec. 20, just in time to remind people how much they enjoyed Owen Wilson’s whimsical journey around after-dark Paris.

The film, which opened this year’s Cannes Film Festival, was a tremendous success for Allen. It became his highest-grossing film over the summer, posting $55.4 million in domestic ticket sales. It also earned fantastic reviews, earning a staggering 93% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Depending on which Oscar trackers you follow, “Midnight” and Allen are in the running for Best Picture and Director Oscars, and a DVD release date in laet December will only help the film’s campaign.

A studio release says that the Blu-ray and DVD both contain a special featurette, “Midnight in Cannes,” and exclusive to the Blu-ray are cast and crew photo galleries.
