Madonna confirmed as Super Bowl halftime entertainment

By Sean O’Connell The NFL’s ready to open its heart to a certain Material Girl, as reports confirm what once was rumored, that Madonna will be the halftime entertainment for Super Bowl XLVI.

The game will be held on Feb. 5, 2012, and is being played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

NBC official confirmed the news Sunday night during the halftime report of the Saints-Lions game, also on the network. Previous halftime entertainers have included Bruce Springsteen, The Who, U2, Prince, the Rolling Stones and – infamously – Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson, who exposed herself on live television.

Madonna’s currently busy promoting her period romance “W.E.,” which she directed and hopes to get into the annual Oscar race.
