Meryl Streep in a much-improved “Iron Lady” trailer – AWARDS ALLEY

By Sean O’Connell
hollywoodnews.com: The new trailer for Phyllida Lloyd’s “The Iron Lady” vastly improves on its predecessor (which used the 1980s staple “Our House,” for reasons I’ll never be able to understand).

To borrow a theme from the film, it finally is making the picture look like the Oscar contender it’s supposed to be (by all accounts).

Instead of being “Meryl Streep and the rest of the movie), this new clip suggests that Lloyd’s Margaret Thatcher biopic – which isn’t really a biopic – could compete in categories outside of Best Actress, where our leading lady appears to be a shoo-in and might even be the frontrunner to win.

Of course, all of this will be determined as the race shakes out. And “Lady” doesn’t drop until the end of December, going wide early next year. But Streep already has claimed Best Actress honors from the New York Film Critics’ Circle for her turn as Britain’s Prime Minister, and you can expect more distinctions to follow.

Here’s the new trailer for “The Iron Lady,” a richer, more distinguished clip that suggests a rich, distinguished cinematic experience.
