Oscars: Hans Zimmer, Pharrell Williams hired as music consultants for Oscar ceremony

By Sean O’Connell One choice borders on predictability. The other comes out of left field (though that doesn’t make it any less effective).

Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer and Grammy-winning songwriter Pharrell Williams have been signed on as music consultants for the upcoming Academy Awards telecast, according to a release. It’s a first-time gig for both artists, even though Zimmer has been nominated eight times, most recently for Christopher Nolan’s “Inception” and Guy Ritchie’s “Sherlock Holmes.”

Williams’ experience in the industry includes writing the original score for the animated hit “Despicable Me,” as well as “Fast & Furious” and multiple television shows.

The 84th Academy Awards, hosted by Billy Crystal, will air Feb. 26 on ABC.
