Oscars: Pedro Almodovar’s “Skin I Live In” leads Goya nominees – AWARDS ALLEY

By Sean O’Connell
hollywoodnews.com: Pedro Almodovar’s “The Skin I Live In” was the classiest horror movie I’ve seen in some time (and if you’ve seen the twisted places the director goes with his passionate play, you understand the unnerving scares that await newcomers).

Spain’s Film Academy doesn’t seem to mind. The group nominated “Skin” for 16 Goya Awards (out of a possible 28 categories), including Film and Director.

“Pedro will be delighted with the news of so many nominations,” producer and Pedro’s brother Agustin Almodovar told the Spanish daily El Pais. “The Academy has given us a generous welcome. It’s like a big hug.”

As THR notes, this recognition “ ends a period of chilly relations between Almodovar and the Spanish academy, which he quit years ago citing irregularities in voting and repeated snubs.” He since has rejoined, though, which might explain the newfound love. It’s all politics, right?

We’re particularly proud of “Skin” composer Alberto Iglesias, who was recognized in the Original Score category. Late last year, we gave Iglesias our Hollywood Film Composer Award at the Hollywood Film Awards gala. Here he is accepting his honor:
