Kristen Wiig joining Ben Stiller in “Walter Mitty”?

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: As much as Universal would like her to move on to a “Bridesmaids” sequel, it sounds like Kristen Wiig’s more interested in joining Ben Stiller for his next comedy.

The “Saturday Night Live” star is close to joining Stiller in his remake of “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” for 20th Century Fox. Wiig would play Stiller’s co-star, who happens to be the girl of his dreams, THR reports.

“Mitty” remakes a Danny Kaye comedy from 1947 about a man who escapes his humdrum reality by daydreaming strange adventures. Stiller will direct as well as star.

Wiig was flirting with a “Bridesmaids” sequel, though I’m thrilled she’s leaving that project alone. The first one, though very successful, was comedic lightning in a bottle, and I don’t see the need for another “Bridesmaids” story just to cash in on the original’s success.

Wiig is in negotiations. We’ll see if Stiller and Fox are able to close the deal.
