Oscars: Viola Davis circling role in “Beautiful Creatures” – AWARDS ALLEY
By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: A few weeks from now, we might be referring to her as Academy Award winner Viola Davis. Until then, she’s remains an incredibly gifted actress deserving of challenging roles, and she appears ready to add another one to her resume.
Davis, star of “The Help,” is in discussions to join writer-director Richard LaGravenese’s planned adaptation of Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl’s “Beautiful Creatures,” the first of three novels centered around Ethan and Lena, a Southern couple contending with the fact that he’s human and she has superpowers.
EW.com reports that Alcon Entertainment will finance and produce the project, which woud cast Davis as Amma, described as “a seer who looks after Ethan and his father after Ethan’s mother’s death.”
“This story successfully uses the bucolic, peaceful world of the Gothic South and the stories of families that have been rooted there for generations to tell a story of fated love,” producer Erin Stoff said in a release.
“Our intention is to create characters that are so rich, and a world that is so inviting, that audiences will desire to have the story continue beyond this movie,” she added.
Filming is set to begin in New Orleans in April.
