Ridley Scott’s Prometheus New Trailer

HollywoodNews.com: Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define.
With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe.
There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

More about Prometheus:
Prometheus is an upcoming science fiction film directed by Ridley Scott and starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Charlize Theron. The film was originally intended as a direct prequel to the 1979 science fiction horror film Alien; however, the events of the film will not precede any of the previously established characters or story lines from the Alien franchise. Filming began in March 2011, and Prometheus is scheduled for release in the USA on June 8, 2012 through 20th Century Fox.

The film will focus on a mythology within the Alien universe. Set in the late-21st century, Prometheus will explore the advanced civilization of an extraterrestrial race responsible for the origins of modern humans on Earth, as well as the background of the Alien creature which made its first appearance in the 1979 film.
The title of the upcoming film, now in post-production, is an allusion to the Titan god, Prometheus, of Greek mythology, who stole fire from Zeus and gave it to humankind – an act which brought eternal punishment upon the god. While actually being the name of the humans’ spaceship in the story, the name “Prometheus” is used in a greater metaphorical sense.

Academy Celebrates French New Wave with Photo Exhibition

HollywoodNews.com: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present a recently restored 35mm print of “Breathless” (“À bout de souffle”) on Friday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. The screening is presented in conjunction with the opening of the Academy’s new exhibition “Photos de Cinéma: Images of the French New Wave by Raymond Cauchetier.” Cauchetier was the set photographer for this and many other key titles of the French New Wave movement. There will be special evening gallery hours from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and immediately following the screening.
“Breathless” (1960) launched a global passion for “La Nouvelle Vague” (“The New Wave”) and made actors Jean Seberg and Jean-Paul Belmondo international stars. The film also became an inspiration for a generation of legendary French filmmaking talent.
Writer-director Jean-Luc Godard made his feature film debut with this now classic work. François Truffaut conceived the story, Claude Chabrol served as the artistic supervisor, and Jean-Pierre Melville appears in the role of the writer, Parvulesco.
The film’s cinematographer, Raoul Coutard, supervised the creation of this new print in 2010, for the 50th anniversary of the original French release date.
Since “Breathless” impressed audiences and filmmakers alike with its jazzy take on the American crime film, Godard has continued to write and direct challenging and sometimes controversial films, cementing his reputation as one of the seminal modernists in the history of cinema. He is credited with having influenced numerous contemporary directors, including Bernardo Bertolucci, Martin Scorsese, Steven Soderbergh and Quentin Tarantino. Godard received an Honorary Award from the Academy in 2010, inscribed “For passion. For confrontation. For a new kind of cinema.”
“Photos de Cinéma: Images of the French New Wave by Raymond Cauchetier,” which includes production photographs from “Breathless,” is the first exhibition outside of Europe to showcase Cauchetier’s motion picture work. On view will be 125 newly made, black-and-white prints from Cauchetier’s own 35mm negatives. The printing was personally overseen by Cauchetier, now in his 90s, at his preferred lab in Paris. Other films represented in the exhibition include “Adieu Philippine,” “Baisers volés” (“Stolen Kisses”), “Jules et Jim,” “Lola” and “La peau douce” (“The Soft Skin”). “Photos de Cinéma” is open to the public through June 24 in the Academy’s Grand Lobby Gallery in Beverly Hills. Regular viewing hours are Tuesday through [...]

Esperanza Spalding Premieres “Radio Song” at David Letterman’s Show

HollywoodNews.com: With only one day left before Esperanza Spalding releases her new studio album Radio Music Society, the jazz songstress is premiering another one of her short films — this time for “Radio Song”. Tonight, Esperanza will perform on The Late Show with Letterman so tune in at 11:30pm EST on CBS!

In the meantime, be sure to pre-order your own copy of Radio Music Society from iTunes here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/preorder/radio-music-society/id506398768
“I can’t stop listening to…Esperanza Spalding’s mellow, jazzy Radio Music Society. She surprised a lot of folks when she won Best New Artist at the 2011 Grammys (beating out Justin Bieber). But after hearing her new songs–my favorites are ‘Black Gold,’ ‘Cinnamon Tree,’ and ‘Smile Like That’–the haters will be eating their words. The girl’s way more than great hair.” – GAYLE KING, O MAGAZINE
“Radio Music Society is Spalding’s answer to the skeptics, even if she doesn’t intend it to be so. Nothing about this project feels like an attempt to cross over, but everything about it is undeniably more accessible than her former. As a bassist, she’s one of jazz’s brightest talents. As a singer, she can carry a note with the best of her peers. Both gifts are on full display, but it’s Spalding’s knack for songwriting that puts Radio Music Society in a category of its own.” – BILLBOARD
“Ironically the songs from this disc were recorded at the same time as the tracks for Chamber Music Society, but Spalding elected to hold off releasing them until now. As fate would have it, the half she released won for her a much deserved Grammy. And the half she is releasing now could well yield her another. Highly Recommended.” – SOUL TRACKS

Woody Allen Is Back With “To Rome with Love”

HollywoodNews.com: On the heels of releasing the award-winning and commercial hit, Midnight in Paris, Sony Pictures Classics announced that on June 22 it will release Woody Allen’s latest film, the newly titled TO ROME WITH LOVE.
TO ROME WITH LOVE was a name selected as an homage to the eternal city of Rome where the film was shot on location last summer. This will be used for its worldwide release. The film’s former title, Nero Fiddled, while an appropriate and humorous phrase in the U.S., is not a familiar expression overseas and many international territories preferred a more globally understood name.
Written and directed by Woody Allen, TO ROME WITH LOVE is a story about a number of people in Italy — some American, some Italian, some residents, some visitors — and the romances and adventures and predicaments they get into. The film stars Allen, Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penélope Cruz, Judy Davis, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig and Ellen Page. TO ROME WITH LOVE is a Gravier Productions film produced by Letty Aronson and Stephen Tenenbaum, and financed by the Italian production and distribution company, Medusa Film.

Sean Penn: Hot Celebrity Photo Gallery

HollywoodNews.com: Our selected celebrity to be included in our “Hot Hollywood Celebrity Photo Gallery of the Week” is Sean Penn.

This year, the 12th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates at their World Summit will recognize a high-profile personality making an outstanding contribution to international social justice and peace. Sean Penn is that person. Sean is an actor, founder and CEO of J/P Haitian Relief Organization, and will be presented with the 2012 Peace Summit Award during the summit for his work to rebuild and aid the victims of the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti, as well as his ongoing advocacy for peace and human rights protection worldwide.
Penn has been active in supporting several political and social causes. On June 10, 2005, Penn made a visit to Iran. Acting as a journalist on an assignment for the San Francisco Chronicle, he attended a Friday prayer at Tehran University.
On January 7, 2006, Penn was a special guest at the Progressive Democrats of America, where he was joined by author and media critic Norman Solomon, Democratic congressional candidate Charles Brown, and activist Cindy Sheehan. The “Out of Iraq Forum”, which took place in Sacramento, California, was organized to promote the anti-war movement calling for an end to the War in Iraq.
In August 2008, Penn made an appearance at one of Ralph Nader’s “Open the Debates” Super Rallies. He protested the political exclusion of Nader and other third parties.
In October 2008, Penn traveled to Cuba, where he met with and interviewed President Raúl Castro.
Criticism of President Bush

On October 18, 2002, Penn placed a US$56,000 advertisement in the Washington Post asking then President George W. Bush to end a cycle of violence. It was written as an open letter and referred to the planned attack on Iraq and the War on Terror. In the letter, Penn also criticized the Bush administration for its “deconstruction of civil liberties” and its “simplistic and inflammatory view of good and evil.” Penn visited Iraq briefly in December 2002.
This advertisement was cited as a primary reason for the development of his relationship with Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez. In one of his televised speeches, Chávez used and read aloud an open letter Penn wrote to Bush. The letter condemned the Iraq War, called for Bush to be impeached, and also called Bush, Vice President [...]

In addition to convening Nobel Laureates, the World Summit annually recognizes a high-profile personality making an outstanding contribution to international social justice and peace. Sean Penn, actor, founder and CEO of J/P Haitian Relief Organization, will be presented with the 2012 Peace Summit Award during the summit for his work to rebuild and aid the victims of the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti, as well as his ongoing advocacy for peace and human rights protection worldwide.
“It’s difficult to properly respond to this while avoiding cliché,” Penn said. “But quite deliberately, I’m thrilled to receive this tribute and to represent it to the youth of Haiti, the strong women of Haiti, and of the world. Tomorrow is a new day where cynicism is for cowards, and men of virtue and agency will be true heroes to their sons. Many in my generation know cowardice well, but not the youth, and not the women. And NEVER the Haitians. This is an extraordinary honor in an extraordinary moment on Earth. I’m very grateful.”
The World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates is internationally recognized as among the most important annual events in the field of peacemaking, attracting Nobel Peace Laureates and high-profile leaders and organizations from around the globe. The Summit is organized by the Permanent Secretariat of the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates on a yearly basis in partnership with a host city.
“Chicago is honored to be the first North American city to host the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates, and we look forward to welcoming distinguished guests from around the globe in April,” said Mayor Emanuel, honorary co-chair of the World Summit Host Committee. “The decision to host this event in Chicago reflects the profile of our city as an international leader in civic dialogue and community involvement. While the Summit is a global event, it will have a local impact and [...]
