Hollywood Film Awards: Ridley Scott to receive the Hollywood Producer Award for “The Martian”

Ridley Scott
Continuing his 2015 resurgence, Ridley Scott is of course going to be feted at the 19th annual Hollywood Film Awards with the Hollywood Producer Award. Scott is not just in the running for a Best Director nod for The Martian this year, he’s also potentially in line for a producing nom if the movie does score a Best Picture citation. In giving this honor to Scott, the Hollywood Film Awards are of course citing how essential his presence is in making The Martian the success that it is, beyond just his direction. Considering that his film is among the best of the year so far, you have to applaud this selection, in particular when considering how he’s such a big part of it actually being an Academy Award player. Scott will have to wait and see how the Oscars take to his contender, but this is a good start and very well could influence the Academy in a big way, so stay tuned…

Here’s part of the press release once again announcing this honor:

Academy Award and Golden Globe-nominated director and producer Ridley Scott will be honored with the “Hollywood Producer Award” for the film The Martian. The “19th Annual Hollywood Film Awards” will take place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, on November 1, 2015. The Hollywood Film Awards, the official launch of the awards season®, has recognized excellence in the art of cinema and filmmaking for 18 years, honoring some of the world’s biggest stars. More than one hundred honorees have gone on to garner Oscar nominations and wins.

This year, the multi-nominated Ridley Scott shows once again he is the master of all film genres as he produces and directs the story of astronaut Mark Watney, who is presumed dead after a firestorm and left behind by his crew. The film stars Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels and Kate Mara.

“Ridley Scott is one of the most prolific, talented and respected members of the film community,” said Allen Shapiro, CEO of dick clark productions. “We are honored to have him as part of this year’s show.”

Congrats again to Mr. Scott!
