Another new Trailer for “Spider-Man: Homecoming” swings into action

Yesterday, Sony and Marvel continued to stoke the flames of excitement for their superhero team up with a new Trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming. Having your friendly neighborhood web-slinger join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (or MCU) not just for this hybrid production and last year’s Captain America: Civil War, but for all MCU outings going forward is a big deal. Still, you have to nail the standalone film first. If that movie doesn’t work, then you’re really nowhere with the character, despite a promising debut last spring. Luckily, this Trailer suggests a very fun flick. You’ll see it below, so sit tight a bit, as we’ll begin once again with a bit of discussion!

Once again, for those not in the know, the film is a reboot of the iconic character. This one is set within the world of the MCU, essentially following the events of the aforementioned Captain America: Civl War. Here, we follow teenager Peter Parker (Tom Holland) as he navigates both being a high school student in New York City and also a burgeoning superhero named Spider-Man, one who is desperate to join the Avengers. Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) sees potential in Peter, but isn’t quite ready to have Spidey stand on equal footing with Iron Man and company. As Peter balances all of this, a danger/opportunity arises in Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton), a bitter blue collar worker who will become a super villain in The Vulture. Action ensues. Jon Watts directs and co-writes with the team of John Francis Daley, Christopher Ford, Johnathan Goldstein, Chris McKenna, and Erik Sommers. The cast also includes Hannibal Buress, Michael Chernus, Jon Favreau, Donald Glover, Logan Marshall-Green, Tony Revolori, Angourie Rice, Martin Starr, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Bokeem Woodbine (rumored to be The Shocker), and Zendaya, among others. Michael Giacchino provides the score.

These trailers so far are showcasing a really enjoyable tone that the movie is likely to take. Setting it in high school is not only the obvious choice, but a stroke of storytelling genius as well. This looks closer to John Hughes than summer blockbuster, which is very exciting. Holland appears perfectly cast, while the world just feels right for the story being told. At this point, I’d be shocked if this didn’t wind up as one of the MCU’s best installments. Anticipation is running high. Fingers crossed that it doesn’t somehow disappoint. That, frankly, would be devastating, considering the promise depicted so far.

Here is how I would rank the Spider-Man films that we’ve gotten so far:

1. Spider-Man 2
2. The Amazing Spider-Man
3. Spider-Man
4. The Amazing Spider-Man 2
5. Spider-Man 3

You know that Sony and Marvel are going to print money with this one. Just look at the newest look at Spider-Man: Homecoming and it’s impossible to deny that this is going to be a huge hit. As previously mentioned, When the film comes out in July, it will mark a whole new chapter in the MCU and a red letter date in comic book/superhero movie history. For now though, all we have is a trio of pretty strong Trailers, with each one certainly whetting the appetite in its own way. You can check the just dropped one out below, and be sure to sit tight for more on this one. It’s shaping up to be one of the summer’s biggest films. Time will tell, but it has the potentially to really be something special. Until then, enjoy the newest Trailer and check back for future articles on your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man…
