Nominations for the 85th Academy Awards® were announced by the show’s host, Seth MacFarlane, and actress Emma Stone at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

Ang Lee’s reaction to the 11 Academy Award nominations LIFE OF PI received this morning: “I am deeply honored and frankly a little overwhelmed by all of the nominations that ‘Life of Pi’ has received this morning. So many talented people gave everything they had to this film, both in front of and behind the camera, and to see all of them receive this kind of recognition is something I am incredibly grateful for.”

Since the first nominations announcement in 1964, the Academy president has been joined by one or more co-announcers at the event. This year the Academy will break with tradition when MacFarlane, who was named Oscar show host in October, joins Stone on Oscar nominations morning. Charlton Heston (1972) was the only other show host to participate in the nominations announcement.
Stone starred in the 2011 Best Picture nominee “The Help” and the summer release “The Amazing Spider-Man.” Other film credits include “Superbad,” “Zombieland,” “Easy A” and “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” In addition she can be seen in “Gangster Squad” later this month, as well as in “The Croods,” due out in March.
Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2012 will be presented on Oscar Sunday, February 24, 2013, at the Dolby Theatre™ at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live on the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.

We are keeping our fingers crossed. So, that our frontrunner, Amy Adams, can be nominated for “Best Supporting Actress,” for her great performance in “The Master.”
A three-time Academy Award-nominated actress, Amy Adams can currently be seen starring in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “The Master,” opposite Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman. The critically acclaimed film broke art house box office records in its opening weekend. Adams can also presently be seen in Robert Lorenz’s “Trouble with the Curve” opposite Clint Eastwood. Later this year she will have a cameo in director Walter Salle’s adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s seminal beat generation novel, “On The Road,” and in 2013, Adams will be seen in Zack Snyder’s “Superman” reboot for Warner Bros., “Man of Steel” where she will play “Lois Lane,” as well as the “Untitled Spike Jonze Film.”
Adams previously starred in David O. Russell’s “The Fighter,” opposite Mark
Wahlberg and Christian Bale. The role garnered Adams Golden Globe, SAG and BAFTA nominations, as well as her third Academy Award nomination in five years. Her previous Academy Award nominated roles include John Patrick Shanley’s “Doubt,” opposite Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Phil Morrison’s “Junebug.” Adams is also noted for her performances in box office hits, including “Julie and Julia,” “Enchanted,” and “Sunshine Cleaning.” Behind the camera, Adams has teamed with Maven Pictures’ Trudie Styler and Celine Rattray to produce “Object of Beauty,” which she is also set to star in.

The 2012 Hollywood Film Awards has also announced that it will honor producers Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner with the “Hollywood Producers Award,” writer/director Judd Apatow with the “Hollywood Comedy Award,” actor John Hawkes with the “Hollywood Breakout Performance Award” for “The Sessions,” and Quvenzhané Wallis with the “New Hollywood Award” for “Beasts of the Southern Wild.” Other honorees include cinematographer Wally Pfister and visual effects supervisors Jane Sirrs and Jeff White. In addition, director Peter Ramsey’s “Rise of the Guardians” will be honored with the “Hollywood Animation Award,” along with additional honorees to be announced in the coming weeks.

The 7th Rome Film Festival (Festival Internazionale del Film di Roma) will confer its Lifetime Achievement Award to Quentin Tarantino. The American director, screenwriter, actor, and producer, winner of an Oscar® for Pulp Fiction, the author of extraordinary works such as Reservoir Dogs, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill:Vol.1, Kill Bill:Vol.2 and Inglourious Basterds, will receive the award on January 4th on the occasion of the gala screening of the new film he has written and directed, Django Unchained, starring Jamie Foxx, Leonardo Di Caprio, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Our friend and great actor, Robert De Niro, will probably be nominated for the 7th time and may win his 3 Oscar. We hope that the Academy includes Robert De Niro in the “Best Supporting Actor” category for his great performance in “Silver Linings Playbook.”
Robert De Niro launched his prolific motion picture career in Brian De Palma’s “The Wedding Party” in 1969. By 1974 he had won the New York Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actor in recognition of his critically acclaimed performance in “Bang the Drum Slowly” and from the National Society of Film Critics for Martin Scorsese’s “Mean Streets.”
In 1974 De Niro won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of the young Vito Corleone in “The Godfather, Part II.” In 1980 he won his second Oscar, as Best Actor, for his extraordinary portrayal of Jake La Motta in Scorsese’s “Raging Bull.”

We are keeping our fingers crossed. When the Academy announces the nominees for the Oscars we expect Ben Affleck and “Argo” to be included in multiple categories.
“Argo” is a dramatic thriller based on true events. Ben Affleck leads an ensemble cast that also includes Bryan Cranston, Alan Arkin, John Goodman, Victor Garber, Tate Donovan, Clea DuVall, Scoot McNairy, Rory Cochrane, Christopher Denham, and Kerry Bishé.
On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, militants storm the U.S. embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage. But, in the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of Canadian Ambassador Ken Taylor. Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found out and likely killed, the Canadian and American governments ask the CIA to intervene. The CIA turns to their top “exfiltration” specialist, Tony Mendez, to come up with a plan to get the six Americans safely out of the country. A plan so incredible, it could only happen in the movies.

Ben Affleck, directed, produced and stars as Tony Mendez in “Argo,” has been recognized for his work as an actor, writer, director, and producer.
Affleck made his directorial debut in 2007 with the feature “Gone Baby Gone,” for which he won several critics groups’ awards, including the Best Directorial Debut Award from the National Board of Review. He also won the Breakthrough Director of the Year Award at the 2007 Hollywood Film Festival. Ben also co-wrote the screenplay for the film, adapted from the Dennis Lehane novel.

January 10 the Academy Awards will announce the nominees for this year’s Oscars. We hope that the membership includes Bradley Cooper in the “Best Actor” category. What a great performance.
Bradley Cooper is seen in SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, directed by David O’Russell. Last summer, Cooper also performed in Williamstown, Massachusetts in the production of THE ELEPHANT MAN. Directed by Scott Ellis and starring alongside Patricia Clarkson, the play marked Coopers second run at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in which he first performed THE UNDERSTUDY in 2008. Cooper is currently in development to bring THE ELEPHANT MAN to Broadway next fall. Cooper recently wrapped production on the independent drama SERENA, based on the adaptation of Ron Rash’s period novel and directed by Oscar winner Suzanne Bier.
Next year, Cooper stars alongside Ryan Gosling in Derek Cianfrance’s thriller, THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES, which debuted at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. PLACE BEYOND THE PINES will be released by Focus Features in 2013. Recently, Cooper signed a two-year, first-look deal with Warner Brothers announcing his production company, 22 & Indiana Pictures.

Last year, Cooper reprised his role alongside Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Justin Bartha in the Warner Brothers comedy sequel THE HANGOVER PART II directed by Todd Phillips. The opening weekend of the film marked the highest-grossing worldwide opening for any comedy and in June 2011, the film out-grossed the original HANGOVER in worldwide earnings to become the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all time. Cooper is currently filming the final installation, THE HANGOVER PART III, which will be released by Warner Brothers on May 24, 2013.

Nine films will advance to the next round of voting in the Foreign Language Film category for the 85th Academy Awards®. Seventy-one films had originally qualified in the category.
The films, listed in alphabetical order by country, are:

Foreign Language Film nominations for 2012 are again being determined in two phases.
The Phase I committee, consisting of several hundred Los Angeles-based members, screened the 71 eligible films between mid-October and December 17. The group’s top six choices, augmented by three additional selections voted by the Academy’s Foreign Language Film Award Executive Committee, constitute the shortlist.
The shortlist will be winnowed down to the five nominees by specially invited committees in New York and Los Angeles. They will spend Friday, January 4, through Sunday, January 6, viewing three films each day and then casting their ballots.
The 85th Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Directors Guild of America President Taylor Hackford and 65th Annual DGA Awards Dinner Chair Michael Stevens today announced that director/actor/producer Kelsey Grammer will host the 65th Annual DGA Awards on Saturday, February 2, 2013 in the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland in Los Angeles.
“We’re so pleased to welcome Kelsey Grammer back as host of the DGA Awards for the second year in a row,” said Hackford. “Last year, Kelsey kept the show (and the wine) flowing while both celebrating the craft of directing and poking fun in all the right places. The audience had a rousing good time and I know we are all looking forward to seeing what Kelsey comes up with this year.”
Stevens said, ?Kelsey is the consummate entertainer ? between his sharp wit and archly-raised eyebrow, and his long history in this community on both sides of the camera, the show promises to be just as lively and irreverent as ever.?
Grammer, who starred for two seasons on the critically acclaimed Boss, became a DGA member in 1996 and was himself nominated for a DGA Award for outstanding directing in a Comedy Series for the ?Merry Christmas, Mrs. Moskowitz? episode of Frasier. In addition to directing nearly 40 episodes of Frasier, Grammer?s other directing credits include Everybody Hates Chris; Out of Practice; My Ex Life; Alligator Point; and Hank. Grammer most recently voiced the character of the Tin Man in Dorothy of Oz and just finished acting in the feature film Reach Me, both slated for 2013.
This will be Grammer’s second consecutive turn hosting the DGA Awards.
