Ang Lee’s reaction to the 11 Academy Award nominations LIFE OF PI received this morning: “I am deeply honored and frankly a little overwhelmed by all of the nominations that ‘Life of Pi’ has received this morning. Django Unchained – Kudos for Quentin Tarantino @ Rome Film Festival

The 7th Rome Film Festival (Festival Internazionale del Film di Roma) will confer its Lifetime Achievement Award to Quentin Tarantino. The American director, screenwriter, actor, and producer, winner of an Oscar® for Pulp Fiction, the author of extraordinary works such as Reservoir Dogs, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill:Vol.1, Kill Bill:Vol.2 and Inglourious Basterds, will receive the award on January 4th on the occasion of the gala screening of the new film he has written and directed, Django Unchained, starring Jamie Foxx, Leonardo Di Caprio, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, and Kerry Washington. The celebrated film-composer Ennio Morricone will be presenting the award to the director.
“Quentin Tarantino’s vision has radically influenced our collective imagery over the past twenty years – explains Marco Müller, artistic director of the Rome Film Festival – Tarantino is a profoundly American yet very European filmmaker, because the relationship he has established with cinema and its history is as analytical as it is passionate. He has cultivated a coherent project of mise-en-scene, an authorial project that has grown richer thanks, to his experimentation with language and also to constant cinematic cross-references. As a result his films are both alive and vivacious to the extreme, they blast away the codes and conventions of film genres but each of them does express the spirit of his time”.
In Quentin Tarantino’s explosive new film, Django Unchained, Jamie Foxx stars as Django, a plantation slave who partners with Christoph Waltz’s (Inglourious Basterds) bounty hunter to seek vengeance on his former owners and rescue his wife (Kerry Washington). One of the most eagerly anticipated releases of the season, the film also stars Leonardo DiCaprio as the villainous plantation owner, Calvin Candie, and Samuel L. Jackson as Candie’s trusted house-servant, Stephen. Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, Django Unchained is produced by Stacey Sher, Reginald Hudlin, and Pilar Savone. The executive producers are Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Michael Shamberg, Shannon McIntosh, and James Skotchdopole.

Robert De Niro has been nominated six times for Academy Awards

Our friend and great actor, Robert De Niro, will probably be nominated for the 7th time and may win his 3 Oscar. We hope that the Academy includes Robert De Niro in the “Best Supporting Actor” category for his great performance in “Silver Linings Playbook.”
Robert De Niro launched his prolific motion picture career in Brian De Palma’s “The Wedding Party” in 1969. By 1974 he had won the New York Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actor in recognition of his critically acclaimed performance in “Bang the Drum Slowly” and from the National Society of Film Critics for Martin Scorsese’s “Mean Streets.”
In 1974 De Niro won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of the young Vito Corleone in “The Godfather, Part II.” In 1980 he won his second Oscar, as Best Actor, for his extraordinary portrayal of Jake La Motta in Scorsese’s “Raging Bull.”

In 2009, De Niro received the coveted Kennedy Center Honor for his distinguished acting. He also received the Hollywood Actor Award from the Hollywood Film Festival and the Stanley Kubrick Award from the BAFTA Britannia Awards. In addition, AARP The Magazine gave De Niro the 2010 Movies for Grownups Lifetime Achievement Award.
De Niro was honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2011 Golden Globe Award. He also served as the jury president of the 64th Cannes Film Festival.
De Niro’s upcoming film projects include the Weinstein Co.’s “The Silver Linings Playbook,” CBS Films’ “Last Vegas,” Relativity Media’s “Malavita,” Lionsgate’s “The Big Wedding,” Grindstone Entertainment’s “Freelancers,” and Millennium’s “The Killing Season,” and “Red Lights.” De Niro recently starred in Focus Features’ “Being Flynn.”

Ben Affleck and Argo to be nominated by the Academy Awards!

We are keeping our fingers crossed. When the Academy announces the nominees for the Oscars we expect Ben Affleck and “Argo” to be included in multiple categories.
“Argo” is a dramatic thriller based on true events. Ben Affleck leads an ensemble cast that also includes Bryan Cranston, Alan Arkin, John Goodman, Victor Garber, Tate Donovan, Clea DuVall, Scoot McNairy, Rory Cochrane, Christopher Denham, and Kerry Bishé.
On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, militants storm the U.S. embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage. But, in the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of Canadian Ambassador Ken Taylor. Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found out and likely killed, the Canadian and American governments ask the CIA to intervene. The CIA turns to their top “exfiltration” specialist, Tony Mendez, to come up with a plan to get the six Americans safely out of the country. A plan so incredible, it could only happen in the movies.

ABOUT BEN AFFLECK:
Ben Affleck, directed, produced and stars as Tony Mendez in “Argo,” has been recognized for his work as an actor, writer, director, and producer.
Affleck made his directorial debut in 2007 with the feature “Gone Baby Gone,” for which he won several critics groups’ awards, including the Best Directorial Debut Award from the National Board of Review. He also won the Breakthrough Director of the Year Award at the 2007 Hollywood Film Festival. Ben also co-wrote the screenplay for the film, adapted from the Dennis Lehane novel.
In 2010, he directed and starred in “The Town,” in addition to co-writing the screenplay. The film was named a Movie of the Year by the American Film Institute (AFI), and the cast won the National Board of Review Award for Best Acting by an Ensemble. In addition, Affleck earned a Writers Guild of America Award nomination for “The Town,” which also brought Oscar®, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award® nominations to Jeremy Renner. Also in 2010, Affleck starred alongside Tommy Lee Jones in John Wells’ drama “The Company Men.”
This summer, Affleck shot a starring role in “Runner, Runner,” directed by Brad Furman and slated for release next year. He is next set to direct a film about notorious Boston mobster Whitey Bulger, in which he and Matt Damon will [...]

Is Bradley Cooper of “Silver Lining Playbook” going to get nominated for Oscar?

January 10 the Academy Awards will announce the nominees for this year’s Oscars. We hope that the membership includes Bradley Cooper in the “Best Actor” category. What a great performance.
Bradley Cooper is seen in SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, directed by David O’Russell. Last summer, Cooper also performed in Williamstown, Massachusetts in the production of THE ELEPHANT MAN. Directed by Scott Ellis and starring alongside Patricia Clarkson, the play marked Coopers second run at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in which he first performed THE UNDERSTUDY in 2008. Next year, Cooper stars alongside Ryan Gosling in Derek Cianfrance’s thriller, THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES, which debuted at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. PLACE BEYOND THE PINES will be released by Focus Features in 2013. Recently, Cooper signed a two-year, first-look deal with Warner Brothers announcing his production company, 22 & Indiana Pictures.

Last year, Cooper reprised his role alongside Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Justin Bartha in the Warner Brothers comedy sequel THE HANGOVER PART II directed by Todd Phillips. The opening weekend of the film marked the highest-grossing worldwide opening for any comedy and in June 2011, the film out-grossed the original HANGOVER in worldwide earnings to become the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all time. Kelsey Grammer to Host 65th Annual DGA Awards

Directors Guild of America President Taylor Hackford and 65th Annual DGA Awards Dinner Chair Michael Stevens today announced that director/actor/producer Kelsey Grammer will host the 65th Annual DGA Awards on Saturday, February 2, 2013 in the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland in Los Angeles.
“We’re so pleased to welcome Kelsey Grammer back as host of the DGA Awards for the second year in a row,” said Hackford. “Last year, Kelsey kept the show (and the wine) flowing while both celebrating the craft of directing and poking fun in all the right places. The audience had a rousing good time and I know we are all looking forward to seeing what Kelsey comes up with this year.”
Stevens said, ?Kelsey is the consummate entertainer ? between his sharp wit and archly-raised eyebrow, and his long history in this community on both sides of the camera, the show promises to be just as lively and irreverent as ever.?
Grammer, who starred for two seasons on the critically acclaimed Boss, became a DGA member in 1996 and was himself nominated for a DGA Award for outstanding directing in a Comedy Series for the ?Merry Christmas, Mrs. Moskowitz? episode of Frasier. In addition to directing nearly 40 episodes of Frasier, Grammer?s other directing credits include Everybody Hates Chris; Out of Practice; My Ex Life; Alligator Point; and Hank. Grammer most recently voiced the character of the Tin Man in Dorothy of Oz and just finished acting in the feature film Reach Me, both slated for 2013.

Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained soundtrack out today!

Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained Original Motion Picture is available in all stores and digital retailers today via Loma Vista Recordings. The Soundtrack is currently streaming at UnchainedSoundtrack.Com. Django Unchained marks the first time that Academy Award®-winning and Grammy® Award nominated director Quentin Tarantino has collaborated with artists to create original music for use in the film and original motion picture soundtrack. The film release of Django Unchained will be on December 25, 2012 by The Weinstein Company in the U.S. and Sony Pictures internationally.
Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained Original Motion Picture Soundtrack features new and exclusive original music and compositions from some of the most prominent figures in film and music today including, Rick Ross’ “100 Black Coffins” produced by and featuring Jamie Foxx, John Legend’s soulful offering “Who Did That To You?,” and “Ancora Qui” by Honorary Academy Award® Winner Ennio Morricone and Elisa. The complete tracklisting for Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained Original Motion Picture Soundtrack can be found below.
“I want to thank all the artists who contributed original songs (a first for me) to the picture. Most of these contributions came out of the artists’ own inspiration and their illustration of the film’s soul is invaluable,” said Quentin Tarantino. “In addition to the new original songs I am also using a lot of older recordings on the soundtrack – many of which came from my personal vinyl collection. Instead of having the record companies give me new digitally cleaned up versions of these recordings from the 60′s and 70′s, I wanted to use the vinyl I’ve been listening to for years – complete with all the pops and cracks. I even kept the sound of the needle being put down on the record. Basically because I wanted people’s experience to be the same as mine when they hear this soundtrack for the first time.”
Written and directed by Academy Award®-winner Quentin Tarantino, Django Unchained is produced by Stacey Sher, Reginald Hudlin and Pilar Savone. The executive producers are Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Michael Shamberg, Shannon McIntosh, and James Skotchdopole.
