“Real Housewives” franchise parodied on BET Awards

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: Why should the “Real Housewives” get to have all the fun? Tonight’s BET Awards made room for the men. A series of short sketched featured “The Real House Husbands of Hollywood,” starring singer Bobby Brown, comedian Kevin Hart, producer Jermaine Dupri, and rapper Nelly.
In place of globetrotting, party-hosting and pimping personal businesses, the House Husbands were shown playing cards with fellow celeb, actor Anthony Anderson. In the first sketch, a verbal spar between Nelly and Kevin Hart culminates in the comedian having beer thrown in his face and prompting him to take off his shirt. Nick Cannon makes a cameo when Kevin Hart’s back reveals a wide tattoo bearing the name “Mariah.” In a later sketch, Basketball wife and Real World L.A. veteran Tami Roman appears to defend pretend boyfriend Kevin Hart.

“Fast and Furious” 6 to open Memorial Day 2013

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: Looks like five “Fast and Furious” films wasn’t enough—so, get ready for number six. The latest sequel in the franchise will hit theaters on Memorial Day 2013 (May 27th). The announcement is no surprise, considering the record performance of the most recent release in the series, “Fast Five.” So far, it has grossed an estimated $592M worldwide, and earned more than $86M on opening weekend (a record for its studio, Universal Pictures).
So, what’s in store for number six? More action, and (impossibly), more danger. Vin Diesel will return; Neal H. Moritz will produce; Justin Lin will direct once again.

Did Lady Gaga pocket funds raised for a Japan charity?

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: Lady Gaga is being sued for some $5M amid claims that she pocketed partial proceeds from a campaign designed to aid Japan earthquake victims. According to Ari Kresch, an attorney with 1-800-Law-Firm, the legal group filing the suit, “I’m suing Lady Gaga simply to hold her accountable for giving the money that she was raising for charity to the cause that she was trying to raise it for.”
So, what’s the problem? According to the plaintiffs, the Lady Gaga camp was overcharging for extras like shipping and handling in conjunction with the $5 “We Pray for Japan” bracelets that donors expected to go to charity. The allegation is that in place of all proceeds less logistical costs going to charity, as was implied, that the Gaga camp donated some percentage of the money, used some percentage for logistical cost, and kept some percentage for itself.
Another 1-800-Law-Firm rep, Alyson Oliver, added, “When we tried to communicate with the defendants in this lawsuit, all we got was, ‘well, some of the money is being retained, but we don’t really know how much.’” Per Gossip Cop, the suit says Lady Gaga “violated a number of federal racketeering laws as well as consumer protection laws from the alleged scam.”

Jerry Seinfeld: homewrecker?

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: Before agreeing to be featured on “The Marriage Ref,” Howie Kohlenberg’s problems were few. Barring mild financial troubles and the occasional marital woe, Kohlenberg was happy with his wife, Christine. He thought Christine was happy, too; so, why did the couple recently file for divorce? According to Mr. Kohlenberg (via a New York Post interview), his wife changed after their appearance on “The Marriage Ref”—and it’s all Jerry Seinfeld’s fault.
Though Seinfeld was a judge on the episode in which the Kohlenbergs’ story aired, he is also a producer and co-creator of the “Marriage Ref” franchise. And it is the producers, and the show at large, which Kohlenberg blames for his wife leaving he and their 4 ½ year old son.
“The people on the show were pumping us up, saying, ‘You’re going to wake up and be stars. You’re going to be famous and make money.’ The producer kept saying [Christine’s] lips looked great, and all of a sudden she was getting a lot of Botox…We almost got kicked off the show because she was putting racy photos on Facebook. “
To those who would argue that participating a show about marital problems might already signal trouble, Kohlenberg admitted that the marriage wasn’t “perfect” but maintained that “The Marriage Ref” experience “took it in a whole new direction.” Said Kohlenberg, “It was the nail in the coffin.”
After the show aired, Mrs. Kohlenberg flew to Los Angeles, played a minor role in an indie comedy and left her husband for a Canadian producer. Since then she has filmed a pilot for a New York-based reality show, “Shopaholics.” She has not returned to her family (indeed, the couple divorced) and she was not available for comment.
“We did it to drum up some business,” Kohlenberg said. “They promised to promote [our] spa on air. They didn’t…Everybody thinks reality shows are glamorous — you’re going to get rich, and it’s going to be the next ‘Jersey Shore,’ ” continued Kohlenberg. “They make you jump through hoops, the bottom line is they don’t give a s*it. You’re just another number.”

“The Twilight Saga: New Moon” director Chris Weitz comments on “Breaking Dawn”

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: “They shouldn’t have done Volturi House Makeover Edition,” tweeted “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” director Chris Weitz in response to a follower’s question late Saturday night. The response followed the tweet of a user listed as Lizz Kraft, who asked the director, “@chrisweitz I gotta now, what do you think of the Breaking Dawn Volturi throne room we’ve glimpsed in photo release? I prefer your New Moon version.”
The referenced change refers to one of several official photos released by Summit Entertainment previewing still shots from various scenes in “Breaking Dawn”. One such photo shows lead Volturi vamp Aro and two other characters in a space that seems intended to serve as the Volturi throne room but that looks quite different (and frankly, lower budget) than the identical room seen in “New Moon.”
The difference points to one consequence of Twilight film movie making: each film has seen a different director. The result has been characters and sets that look different from one film to the next, and varying interpretations of the text.

Rhianna “LOUD” tour says “Forget You” to Cee Lo Green

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: Looks like Cee Lo Green will no longer open for Rhianna’s “LOUD” tour, said a rep from his camp, citing competing priorities and other commitments. In addition to pursuing recording activity that will further Green’s own career, he remains on the hook for other projects, including his role as a coach and judge on NBC’s singing competition, “The Voice.”
Said Anne Watkins, a rep from Green’s management company, “With the requirements and time commitment to ‘The Voice,’ on top of heading back into the recording studio and an upcoming book, he feels that he wouldn’t give his fans the show that they deserve.”
What the Green camp didn’t discuss was the singer’s recent PR troubles brought forth by a number of tweets that were criticized as homophobic. It is likely that the media frenzy surrounding the mid-June Twitter controversy added to Green’s decision to drop his spot on Rhianna’s tour.
The “LOUD” tour, which had only 17 dates in the U.S. and Canada, commenced in early June and will run through mid-July. Rhianna’s camp has not commented, and no replacement act has been announced as yet.

Rachel Weisz, Daniel Craig wed

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: It was on the set of “Dream House” that Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig met, and on Wednesday in New York that the on-screen couple got real-life married. The pair’s months-long courtship was relatively short, considering much longer relationships in each of their past. Weisz shares a five year old son (and had a long-term relationship) with “Black Swan” director Darren Aronofsky; Craig spent some six years with producer Satsuki Mitchell until their breakup in 2010.
The U.K. Daily Mail broke the story first, with headline “The name’s Craig. Mrs. Craig.” Weisz is best known for her work in “The Mummy” and “The Constant Gardner”; Craig entered the international spotlight when he starred in “Casino Royale” and “Quantum of Solace” as James Bond.

“True Blood” star Stephen Moyer calls “Twilight” idealized, fluffy

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: Big things are afoot in Bon Temps, and star Stephen Moyer spoke today to the LA Times about what’s in store for the “True Blood” series. When questioned about the enduring popularity of vampire stories in recent years, he made a direct comparison between “True Blood” and “Twilight.”
“[Twilight is] this perfect romance, this perfect ideal. Ours isn’t quite as fluffy as that. The way that [creator/writer] Alan [Ball] works is, as soon as a character has a semblance of happiness, he digs a hole for them to drive into.”
Moyer also seemed to draw a big distinction between viewer demographics for the two franchises: “I think in the teen world, there’s a beautiful romance about that stuff. I believe this year the Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart characters have a baby.”

Marilyn Monroe’s iconic “subway” dress sells for $4.2M

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: The ivory pleated halter dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in the 1955 film “The Seven Year Itch” was sold for $4.2M at auction on Saturday. The garment was sold alongside a number of other pieces that were part of singer/actress Debbie Reynolds’ personal collection of movie memorabilia.
Dubbed “the subway dress”, the white frock became famous when, as part of the scene, Monroe’s nameless character (“The Girl”) lowered her hands to maintain a modicum of modesty when a rush of air blows her dress upward through a subway vent.
Also auctioned off was the red-sequined showgirl gown and a feathered hat Monroe wore in “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” ($1.47M), Monroe’s costumes from “There’s No Business Like Show Business” and “River of No Return” ($1.2M), said CNN. The previous record price for a Monroe dress was $1.26 million paid in 1999 for the dress the actress wore when she sang President John F. Kennedy the birthday song in 1962.
