Members of the Broadcast Film Critics’ Association handed out 11 nominations to each film, one short of the record 12 nominations earned by “Black Swan” last year.

“Hugo” earned nods for Best Picture, Best Young Actor for Asa Butterfield, Best Director for Martin Scorsese, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Visual Effects, Best Sound and Best Score.

“The Artist” received nominations for Best Picture, Best Actor for Jean Dujardin, Best Supporting Actress for Berenice Bejo, Best Acting Ensemble, Best Director for Michel Hazanavicius, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Editing, Best Costume Design, and Best Score.

The BFCA did an excellent job of spreading the wealth around to a number of different films. George Clooney received three nominations as part of the Best Acting Ensemble nominees for “The Descendants” and “The Ides of March,” along with his Best Actor nomination in “The Descendants.” In addition to “Hugo,” Scorsese also directed the Best Documentary Feature nominee “George Harrison: Living in the Material World.” And last week it was announced that Scorsese will also be honored with the Critics’ Choice Music+Film Award at this year’s show.

The Critics’ Choice Movie Awards will be given out on Thursday, Jan. 12, at the Hollywood Palladium. Rob Huebel and Paul Scheer will host the show, featuring Fitz and The Tantrums as the house band, which will broadcast live for the fifth year in a row on VH1 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Here’s a full list of CCMA nominees:

BEST PICTURE
The Artist
The Descendants
Drive
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
The Help
Hugo
Midnight in Paris
Moneyball
The Tree of Life
War Horse

BEST ACTOR
George Clooney – “The Descendants”
Leonardo DiCaprio – “J. He said, “Harry Potter is part of popular culture. The series is going to leave a legacy for generations of children to enjoy. Look at Star Wars; the original movies are 30 years old, but we talk about them as though they were released recently. The Harry Potter films will be the same.”

I couldn’t agree more. Since “Goblet of Fire,” I have been banging the drum on behalf of the “Harry Potter” series, calling it the most remarkable cinematic achievement of our lifetime. Name another series that sustained its creative vision through eight films, switching directors but never dropping in quality. The fact that they hired the perfect actors from film No. 1 and delivered on the promise of Rowling’s world blows my mind.

I’d love to see the Academy honor the “Potter” accomplishments with a Best Picture nod come next year. And Warner certainly is pushing for consideration. We’ll see if smaller award victories like this help the cause.

For complete Oscar and film festival coverage, visit our awards alley for the latest news items, reviews and interviews all season long.

Follow Hollywood News on Twitter for up-to-date news information.

Hollywood News, Hollywood Awards, Awards, Movies, News, Award News, Breaking News, Entertainment News, Movie News, Music News

Oscars: “Harry Potter” FYC ads hit the Web – AWARDS ALLEY

*NEWS

AWARDS

AWARDS ALLEY

CELEBS

HARRY POTTER

HEADLINE

HEADLINES

MOVIES

Academy Award for Best Picture

David Yates

Entertainment

Entertainment/Culture

film

Human Interest

Mass media

oscar

peter jackson

warner bros.

Warner Bros. A keepsake book arrived in the mail the other day with a bevy of critical quotes praising not only “Part 2” but the entire series. And now, an FYC ad has made its way online as the Oscar campaign continues.

We have it here:

All the ad asks is that we “Consider …” And why not? There’s no clear-cut frontrunner in the Best Picture race this year. And while I believe it’s an uphill battle for a film franchise that never managed to crack the Best Picture race, why couldn’t it happen this year? Warner Bros., at the very least, has to try. The film’s bound to secure technical nods. Could Alan Rickman slip in to a Supporting Actor race? Could Daniel Radcliffe compete for Best Actor? In a bets case scenario, could Yates and “Part 2” find themselves in the thick of the Best Picture competition?

Expect the film to drop back onto Oscar tracker radars when it streets on DVD and Blu-ray on Dec. 2. Do you think “Harry” should have legitimate Oscar hopes? Let us know.

“Harry Potter,” “Glee” lead 2012 People’s Choice Awards

*NEWS

AWARDS

AWARDS ALLEY

CELEBS

GLEE

HARRY POTTER

HEADLINE

HEADLINES

MOVIES

34th People's Choice Awards

35th People's Choice Awards

British people

Caribbean

daniel radcliffe

English people

Entertainment/Culture

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Human Interest

katy perry

lady gaga

Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

RUPERT GRINT

Ryan Reynolds

By Sean O’Connell hollywoodnews.com: A beautiful keepsake book for the final “Harry Potter” movie arrived in the mail yesterday with the message “Consider.” [...]

By Sean O’Connell
hollywoodnews.com: A beautiful keepsake book for the final “Harry Potter” movie arrived in the mail yesterday with the message “Consider.” Coincidentally, the last installment in the eight-movie franchise scored big with the 2012 People’s Choice Awards, which revealed its nominations on Tuesday.

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2″ and “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” are going to compete for favorite movie alongside “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” “The Help” and “Bridesmaids.” Three out of those five are excellent. Dedicated fans of Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling’s legendary character are planning a moment of silence at 3 p.m.today to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the death of Harry’s parents, Lily and James, who died on this day defending their infant son from Lord Voldemort.

That’s why “RIP Lily and James Potter” became a trending topic early this morning on Twitter as Potter fans rallied in support of the deceased literary characters.

“One hour Twitter silence in honour of James & Lily Potter begins now. RIP James and Lily Potter,” types @JoRowlingNet.

THR has a solid recap as to why several “Potter” fans are planning an hour of Twitter silence in honor or their beloved characters. Maybe they’ll just be trick-or-treating at that time?

How will you commemorate the anniversary? My suggestion: Watch one of the “Potter” films. It’s far more productive, and entertaining, than moments of virtual silence.

Hollywood News on Twitter for up-to-date news information.

Hollywood News, Hollywood Awards, Awards, Movies, News, Award News, Breaking News, Entertainment News, Movie News, Music News

Harry Potter franchise wins top honors in Scream Awards

*NEWS

AWARDS

HARRY POTTER

HEADLINES

MOVIES

TV

British people

daniel radcliffe

English film directors

English people

Entertainment/Culture

Human Interest

Peter Dinklage

spike

the 2011 Scream Awards

By Kim Palacios hollywoodnews.com: Winners in the 2011 Scream Awards (presented by Spike TV) were honored on Saturday night, with the [...]

By Kim Palacios

hollywoodnews.com: Winners in the 2011 Scream Awards (presented by Spike TV) were honored on Saturday night, with the Harry Potter franchise leading the win count and receiving a special honor. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2,” the final film in the franchise, came away with six awards (including the night’s top honor, “The Ultimate Scream”), and was recognized with a tribute to the entire series that included Daniel Radcliffe and Ralph Feinnes.

Other notable awards went to “Super 8” (Best Science Fiction Movie), “Let Me In” (Best Horror Movie), “X-Men: First Class” (Best Fantasy Movie), “Game of Thrones” (Best TV Show), “Monsters” (Best Independent Movie), Peter Dinklage of “Game of Thrones” (Best Supporting Actor), Darren Aronofsky (Best Director – “Black Swan”), and “The Dark Knight Rises” (Most Anticipated Film).

The awards taped at Universal Studios in Los Angeles and premieres on Spike TV on Tuesday, October 18 (9:00PM EST/PST) with simulcasts on VH1 and VH1 Classic.

Follow Hollywood News on Twitter for up-to-date news information.

Hollywood News, Hollywood Awards, Awards, Movies, News, Award News, Breaking News, Entertainment News, Movie News, Music News

Harry Potter “Making Of” Fans of the Boy Who Lived have ample opportunities to revisit the magical hero, from theme parks in Orlando to the original books that inspired the movie franchise. And soon enough, they’ll have another avenue to exercise their Potter passion.

Workers are putting the finishing touches on the official “Making of Harry Potter” studio tour, which will be housed in a facility outside of London, the AP reports. With assistance from Warner Bros., this museum of all things Potter will include authentic sets, props, costumes and more from the eight-film series. And all of it will be located in the site of the original filming.

“I get shudders down my spine every time I walk back in there,” said Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in all eight films. “Immediately, as soon as you go back it just fires up a decade’s worth of memories.

“I remember the first time I went in there — it was on camera. (Director) Chris Columbus specifically didn’t want us to see it before filming, because we were only 11-year-old kids,” Felton continued. “So, our reaction when we walked in there was pretty much genuine.”

Fans will be able to walk through the Great Hall of Hogwarts, the Ministry of Magic, the cupboard under the stairs that Harry called home, and several more cherished sets at the facility, which will open on March 31.

A Web site allowing fans to book tickets recently went online but experienced technical difficulties, which the studio blamed on high traffic.

Hollywood News on Twitter for up-to-date news information.

Hollywood News, Hollywood Awards, Awards, Movies, News, Award News, Breaking News, Entertainment News, Movie News, Music News

Release of Harry Potter e-books delayed until 2012

*NEWS

HARRY POTTER

HEADLINES

British people

Civil Parish of Winterbourne

e-book

Entertainment

Entertainment/Culture

Human Interest

J. The creators of the portal attributed the e-book delay to serving a greater purpose: “opening Pottermore to as many people as possible and making the experience as good as it can be.”

Consequently, the focus of Pottermore for the remainder of 2011 will be to enlist as many new users as possible. The site has been described as “combination of virtual encyclopedia, role-playing game and online community for fans of author J.K. Rowling’s boy wizard.”

Follow Hollywood News on Twitter for up-to-date news information.

Hollywood News, Hollywood Awards, Awards, Movies, News, Award News, Breaking News, Entertainment News, Movie News, Music News
