Controversial TIFF doc ‘Cool It’ finds home at Roadside Attractions

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: One documentary heading to the Toronto International Film Festival just secured a distribution deal days before the fest officially kicks off.
Roadside Attractions acquired domestic rights to Ondi Timoner’s “Cool It,” which will have its world premiere at TIFF. Timoner’s doc focuses on controversial economist/political scientist Bjorn Lomborg, who – according to a release – “came to prominence with the book ‘The Skeptical Environmentalist’ (1998), and went on to challenge the conventional wisdom of Al Gore and David Guggenheim’s ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ with lectures and the publication of ‘Cool It’ (2007).
“Many docs we see are satisfied to introduce yet another problem to fret about,” said Roadside Attractions co-president Eric d’Arbeloff. “But ‘Cool It’ is so exciting because it’s radically structured toward solutions. In the same way our movie, ‘The Cove,’ demonstrated that a small group of activists can change the world, we think that this brave film could help start real progress on global warming.”
“‘Cool It’ blasts through the polarizing logjam of the climate change debate to bring a solid plan for solutions,” Timoner added. “Bjorn is fascinating, because in his attempt to make the world a smarter, better, more efficient place, he’s threatened the status quo, and been vilified by both the right and the left simultaneously. His story is riddled with conspiracy, controversy, and politics surrounding a subject matter that truly affects us all.”
Roadside said it plans a fall 2010 release.

Justin Bieber is coming to a movie theater near you in 2011

HollywoodNews.com: Hours after the news hit that Justin Bieber is writing his autobiography “Justin Bieber: First Step 2 Forever: My Story” for Harper Collins, the word on the street is that the pop singer’s life will also be projected on to the big screen.
Deadline reports exclusively that Davis Guggenheim, the Oscar winning director of Al Gore’s green documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” will be at the helm of the pop singer’s concert film.
The docu sounds a bit similar to the 1988 U2 film “Rattle and Hum.” Like that film, Guggenheim will follow Bieber on a concert tour.
Bieber is set to woo young girls into the multiplex on February 11, 2011 – Valentine Day’s weekend. Paramount is releasing the film.

The Gores aren’t attending Chelsea Clinton’s wedding

Hollywoodnews.com: Don’t expect Al and Tipper Gore to be at Chelsea Clinton’s wedding.
In the wake of their messy separation and the sexual accusations against Al Gore, the former Vice Presidential couple is saving face for the Clintons.
The former First Daughter is expected to wed investment banker Marc Mezvinsky on July 31 in Rhinebeck, NY at Astor Courts per the New York Daily News.
“The Gores are not attending the wedding,” family spokeswoman Kalee Kreider said in a statement. “They both wish Chelsea well, believe she is a wonderful young woman, and they share in the family’s excitement.”
The Daily News wonders whether the Gores were even invited to the ceremony since it was capped at 400 guests. Gore said in an interview last December with The Daily Beast, “I was looking forward to Chelsea’s wedding – that’s a happy occasion.”
When Kreider was asked whether the Gores were invited she replied “No comment.”

Al Gore speaks out about sexual allegations

Hollywoodnews.com: Former vice president Al Gore has broken his silence on the sexual accusations that have been made against him by a Portland, Ore. masseuse.
Gore’s strongly worded statement arrives just as Portland cops are re-opening an investigation they deemed insufficient four years ago.
“Further investigation into this matter will only benefit Mr. Gore,” says Gore spokesperson Kalee Kreider.
“The Gores cannot comment on every defamatory, misleading and inaccurate story generated by tabloids. Mr. Gore unequivocally and emphatically denied this accusation when he first learned of its existence three years ago. He stands by that denial.”

Al Gore’s sexual accuser steps forward

The Portland, Oregon masseuse who accused Al Gore of sexual abuse has made her identity known: Molly Hagerty, 54, claims that “Al Gore is a pervert and sexual predator.”
Hagerty tells the National Enquirer that she has a videotape and DNA evidence proving that Gore forced himself upon her.
The incident occurred four years and it is only now that Hagerty is coming forth with her tell-all story. Police never pursued charges due to lack of evidence.
Essentially, Hagerty’s story is that Gore went looking for a “happy ending” massage which resulted in the former Vice President groping Hagerty when she refused his request.
Hagerty wants $1 million to tell her story to TV news outlets, but so far, her offer hasn’t been met.
Gore recently separated from his wife of 40 years.

Al Gore’s sexual accuser wants $1 million

Hollywoodnews.com: The Portland, Oregon masseuse who accused former vice president “Al Gore” of sexual abuse wants to speak with the media…to the tune of $1 million.
While there are outlets that are interested, a Page Six source says that her demands are “way too high.”
At present, the masseuse has not revealed her identity. Should she squawk, it would only scoop on more embarrassment for Gore who is weathering a separation from wife Tipper. A la the Monica Lewinsky dress, the masseuse plans to come forward with the supposed sex stained pants she wore (which currently reside in a bank safety-deposit box).
But get this: Portland police never pursued an investigation after her allegations against Gore because “there was insufficient evidence to support the allegations” and the masseuse declined to seek prosecution.
Further details in the police report reveal that Gore “appeared that he was demanding sexual favors or sexual behaviors.” The masseuse said Gore “angrily complained that I was not doing what he wanted.”
She alleged, “He grabbed my right hand hard, shoved it down under the sheet to his pubic-hair area . . . and said to me, ‘There!’ in a very sharp, loud, angry-sounding tone.
“He had a dramatic display of violent temper as well as an extremely dictatorial commanding attitude besides his Mr. Smiley Global Warming concern persona. I did not want to get hurt, and I did not want to get raped.”

Larry David remarks on his ex-wife’s rumored Al Gore affair

HollywoodNews.com: Of all the absurdity.
“Seinfeld” creator Larry David has better other things in life to curb his enthusiasm about, above and beyond the latest rumor that his ex-wife Laurie was schtupping former Vice President Al Gore.
The New York Post’s Chuck Bennett got a hold of David’s cell phone number to ask the “Curb” star his thoughts on the incident.
“Complete nonsense,” David remarked before demanding, “How did you get my number? You can’t just call my cellphone.”
Then David cooled his sharp enthusiasm, “I commend your industriousness. Very nice try. Sorry I cannot give you more.”
