Alec Baldwin to host SNL for record-breaking 16th time

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: Tonight marks the 37th season premiere of Saturday Night Live, and repeat host Alec Baldwin will helm the episode. The event will mark Baldwin’s sixteenth time serving as host of the classic comedy sketch show, marking a clean break from his tie with Steve Martin, who before tonight, had also hosted fifteen times.
Also high on the list of frequent hosts are John Goodman (who has served as host some twelve times), Buck Henry (ten) and Tom hanks (ten). Dave Grohl has been a musical guest a total of ten times, though with “Nirvana” early on, then “Foo Fighters”. Paul Simon has hosted 3 times, been a musical guest 8 times, and been a host and musical guest only once.
As for Baldwin’s best character performances, Pop Eater gives notable mention to his Pete Schweddy role on NPR’s Delicious Dish, his out-of-line Boy Scout leader “Canteen Boy,” and his elf-busting Christmas time parody of his Glengarry Glenross character Blake.

Alec Baldwin expresses anger over Troy Davis execution

HollywoodNews.com: Celebrities like Kim Kardashian have been expressing their anger over Troy Davis’ execution, and now Alec Baldwin is letting everything loose on Twitter.
Baldwin went after a number of issues in regard to the man some believe has been wrongly convicted of killing an officer, states RadarOnline.com. As officials have commented that there is reasonable doubt in the man’s case, Baldwin simply stated, “U don’t want 2 kill an innocent man.”
However, Baldwin also attacked the family of the officer who was killed: “Wonder if the MacPhail family will seek death penalty for US leaders who killed thousands of US soldiers and countless innocent Iraqis.”
Do you agree with Baldwin’s comments?

Alec Baldwin skips out on Emmys with his skit cut out

HollywoodNews.com: Alec Baldwin is a TV staple with his current role on ’30 Rock,’ but apparently he wasn’t so crazy about his pre-taped skit being cut from the Emmys.
Baldwin reportedly taped something for the opening, but FOX was apparently not happy with it as he took a dig at parent company News Corp and president Rupert Murdoch’s phone hacking scandal, states UsMagazine.com. Baldwin did take to Twitter about his disappointment over the cut: “I did a short Emmy pretape a few days ago. Now they tell me NewsCorp may cut the funniest line. #NewsCorphumorlessaswellascorrupt.”
However, he wasn’t exactly completely bitter over the matter as he reportedly didn’t attend the Emmys in part because he was going to Tony Bennett’s birthday party in New York.
Do you wish they would have shown the skit?

Alec Baldwin and James Toback planning a secret film

HollywoodNews.com: Alec Baldwin is certainly plotting his post-”30 Rock” life. Not running for mayor of New York, and having feuds with Starbucks and the New York Post, Baldwin is heading back to the movies.
I’m told he and writer-director James Toback are planning to shoot an indie film this spring. The plot is under wraps, but it should include filming during the Cannes Film Festival. That certainly sounds like fun. Toback had just finished a rewrite of the “Gotti” movie–which I will have more about later this week–and is still working on the umpteenth draft of a movie about John DeLorean. Baldwin popped up this week, regrettably, in an atrocious indie called “Hick” here at the Toronto Film Festival. (The whole thing should have been retitled “Ick.”) The voluble actor is hosting the Tony Bennett 85th birthday gala at the Metropolitan Opera this Sunday and skipping the Emmy Awards. Six days later he hosts “Saturday Night Live.”

“Weeds” star Hunter Parrish is broadway bound

HollywoodNews.com: He’s been playing Mary-Louise Parker’s son Silas Botwin on Showtime’s Weeds for seven seasons now but Hunter Parrish is proving to be an in-demand star of major musicals as well.
The young actor, who also played the son of Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin in the romantic comedy It’s Complicated, is set to star as Jesus in the upcoming Broadway revival of the legendary rock musical Godspell.
In a statement, the actor said: “I am elated to be joining the Godspell family, and honored to be a part of bringing this thrilling classic back to Broadway. I knew after meeting with the creative team that I was going to be a part of something really exciting. I can’t wait to get started.”
He made his Broadway debut to critical acclaim two years ago as Melchior in the Tony Award-winning hit musical Spring Awakening.

Alec Baldwin might miss Emmy Awards for Tony Bennett Tribute

HollywoodNews.com: (Exclusive) Alec Baldwin may be skipping the Emmy Awards again this year. Last year he was a no show, and didn’t win anyway–Jim Parsons from “The Big Bang Theory” took home a statue. Now sources tell me that Alec will likely choose to be at the big gala for Tony Bennett on September 18th at the Metropolitan Opera House instead of attending the Emmy show in Los Angeles.
I can’t blame him–the timing is terrible. And the Bennett night is a once in a lifetime event. Bennett is releasing his “Duets II” album, and many of his collaborators from Aretha Franklin to Lady Gaga to Michael Buble are rumored to be joining the show and the big dinner that accompanies the event. Baldwin won back to back Emmy Awards in 2008 and 2009. But this may be his last season on “30 Rock” anyway if his announcements prove true.
As it is, the Emmys should be giving Steve Carell his Best Actor award this year after seven seasons of great performances on “The Office.”

Bryan Cranston Reportedly Joining Brad Pitt in ‘World War Z’

HollywoodNews.com: ‘Breaking Bad’ star, Bryan Cranston, might be joining Brad Pitt in the film, ‘World War Z’, as he is currently in negotiations to join the film.
The role is allegedly ‘small but flashy’ and little is known about the part. The film, directed by Marc Forster, “is an adaptation of a Max Brooks novel of the same name that depicts a global zombie takeover a decade after the fact,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Bryan is a three-time Emmy winner, and “is also slated to appear in forthcoming rock musical Rock of Ages, which also features Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin and Catherine Zeta-Jones.” ‘World War Z’ is currently in production and will be released in 2012.

Alec Baldwin, Melissa McCarthy hosting “SNL” this season

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Live from New York … it’s Alec Baldwin and Melissa McCarthy! At least, that’s what we know for now.
Baldwin and McCarthy have been named as the first two hosts for the late-night comedy show’s 37th season, The New York Times reports. The “30 Rock” star will be making his sixteenth appearance as host, making him the all-time leader in the host category ahead of Steve Martin, who has hosted 15 times.
As for McCarthy, she starred alongside Kristen Wiig in this summer’s surprise hit “Bridesmaids.” She also recently earned an Emmy nomination for her work on the CBS sitcom “Mike & Molly.”

More celebrities celebrate legalization of gay marriage in NY

HollywoodNews.com: A number of celebrities are excited over the legalization of gay marriage in New York, and they are not hiding it at all.
Lady Gaga, of course, was so proud of the moment: “We did it kids… The revolution is ours to fight for love, justice and equality. Rejoice, New York, and propose. We did it!”
Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin joked around a little in celebrating the moment, states UsMagazine.com. “Alec Baldwin, now we can get married!” Martin wrote while Baldwin responded, “OK, but if you play that effing banjo after eleven o’clock.”
