PETA upset with Lady Gaga over fur coat

HollywoodNews.com: It seems that Lady Gaga is now on PETA’s bad side as the animal activists are upset with her over a fur coat issue.
PETA has reportedly released an open letter to Gaga over recent pictures that have her wearing a number of fur coats, states E! News. “Many of your gay fans, I among them, have long admired what you told Ellen [Degeneres]: “I hate fur and I don’t wear fur.” I included a link because these recent photos of you in fox and rabbit and with a wolf carcass make it appear that you have amnesia,” PETA’s senior vice president, Dan Mathews, wrote.
“PETA has long participated in [gay] Pride events around the country, and just last week we helped lead protests against Chick-fil-A. But by wearing those dumb furs in a heat wave, you’re making yourself a target just like the mindless Kim Kardashian,” the letter continued.
Do you think Gaga will stop wearing fur?

Hayden Panettiere talks ‘Nashville’ character, Taylor Swift

HollywoodNews.com: Hayden Panettiere is playing a young country star in the upcoming show ‘Nashville,’ but that doesn’t mean she is modeling her character after a real-life young country star.
Panettiere recently opened up about the rumor she modeled her character after Taylor Swift, states Entertainment Weekly. “I when think you guys see her and get to know Juliette a little better, you’ll see. But I really think Taylor would disagree wholeheartedly as well. She’s much nicer than my character,” Panettiere commented.
The show is set to premiere on ABC on October 10th.

Ricky Gervais: No more cruelty, no more animal testing

HollywoodNews.com: Cruelty Free International, a new global non-profit organization spells out vision to end product testing on animals worldwide.
Ricky Gervais, Ambassador for Cruelty Free International, states: “I am delighted to support the launch of Cruelty Free International, the exciting global campaign to end the use of animals in product testing. Animal testing for cosmetics is still allowed in most of the world. That means thousands of animals can continue to die for the sake of a new shampoo. We urgently need a worldwide ban on this cruel and unnecessary suffering.”
Ricky, who stars in a campaign video for the new global NGO has launched a worldwide appeal: “It’s time to close the door on testing products on animals. Get involved. Please join me in supporting Cruelty Free International in its global mission to consign animal testing for cosmetics to the history books.”
There is no worldwide ban on animal testing for cosmetics. Despite progress with some countries and companies, over 80% of the world still allows animals, including rabbits and guinea pigs, to be used in cruel experiments.
In a global market it is important that all countries ban the practice to avoid testing simply moving around the world to those countries with no effective laws.
Established by the BUAV with corporate headquarters in London, UK, Cruelty Free International has partnered with NEAVS (the New England Anti-Vivisection Society, a U.S. national 501 (c) 3 not for profit based in Boston, MA) to launch the U.S. Cruelty Free International office. Dr. Theodora Capaldo, Ed.D., President of NEAVS, will be representing this effort in the U.S. as the Cruelty Free International U.S. Executive Officer. This brings together two of the world’s longest standing and most respected animal protection organizations in a united effort. Cruelty Free International will place the issue of animal testing on the agenda of many governments for the very first time as part of a global strategy to tackle product testing. An internationally coordinated campaign will be launched with national campaigns run from offices across the world.
Cruelty Free International U.S. Executive Officer, Dr. Capaldo, states, “We are delighted to have the support of Ricky Gervais for this exciting and dynamic organization. The time has come for an international, concerted effort to finally end animal testing for cosmetics. Cruelty Free International U.S. will lead this critical global effort here. We will work with the government, regulatory agencies and public [...]

Paul McCartney Mesmerizes

By Roger Friedman
HollywoodNews.com: Showbiz411 readers: we are still posting here all the time. But Showbiz411 has also sort of overnight hooked up with Forbes magazine’s Forbes.com. The stories are there, but it’s like we’ve moved into a house before all the construction has finished. But keep checking www.forbes.com on a regular basis as Grammy weekend proceeds.
And basically, I’m just back from the first of three marathon nights of music: the Paul McCartney MusiCares Person of the Year dinner. I was backstage after the show with the survivors–the show was long, and the most complex I’ve ever seen in the football field sized LA Convention Center. Besides McCartney, who played a lot, peformers included Alicia Keys, Tony Bennett, Diana Krall and James Taylor, Coldplay, Allison Krauss, Neil Young with Crazy Horse (Paul and Neil are currently BFFs), Norah Jones, Katy Perry, Elvis Costello narrated a video, the Foo Fighters.
Eddie Izzard was the host–and this was funny–he was seated waaaay at the back of the room at my table. We were cracking up. And he was brilliant on stage. McCartney imported performers from the Las Vegas Cirque du Soleil show “Love”– acrobats and actors and trapeze artists were all over the room and even used a big rotating circular stage.
Katy Perry was so excited about singing “Hey Jude” that she pledged $250,000 from royalties from her latest single to MusiCares. I thought Neil Portnow was going to explode from happiness.
The food was vegetarian–I’m sorry, it was indigestible. Many people rejected it and just ate dessert and bread. I have to give credit to Paul McCartney–every event he’s featured it is vegan. No fish even! This is why he looks so great. But he doesn’t he sneak an In-and-Out Burger sometimes? Tony Bennett’s daughter mentioned she’d gone to Pink’s earlier in the day for a hot dog. It was cruel.
In the audience: Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Carole King, Jack Nicholson, Piers Morgan, Bonnie Raitt, Randy Jackson, Smokey Robinson and–yes–Yoko Ono at the main table. For a while she just sat and chatted with Paul’s son James.

Meanwhile, Clive Davis prepares for his big event tonight at the Beverly Hilton. He has Ray Davies and Diana Ross and tons more stars. How will he top this? Who knows: Maybe Barack Obama will duet with Al Green. Another long night of great music. When are those Grammy Awards anyway?
PS Thanks to John [...]

Paul McCartney finally receives Hollywood Walk of Fame star

HollywoodNews.com: Paul McCartney finally has what all the other members of the Beatles have: a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
McCartney joined Ringo Starr, George Harrison and John Lennon on the Walk of Fame as he was introduced at the ceremony by fellow musician Neil Young, states UsMagazine.com. “Way back in history, in Liverpool when we were kids and we were listening to Buddy Holly and all the rock ‘n’ roll greats, I would have never thought that the day would come when I’d be getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” McCartney said about finally getting a star.
And he had a few people he definitely had to thank: “I couldn’t have done it without, certainly, three boys, so I want to say thanks to those guys, John, George and Ringo.”
Do you think it took a little long for him to get a star?

Steven Seagal sworn in as sheriff’s deputy

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: It’s not for a movie role—Steven Seagal has been sworn in as a real life Sheriff’s Deputy. Hudson County Sheriff Arvin West deputized Seagal this week after the actor contacted him with interest in patrolling the U.S./Mexico border. Seagal will reportedly be working full time to help secure the perimeter.
“It became very clear to me that Mr. Seagal is not in this for the celebrity or the publicity,” Sheriff Arvin West said. “He’s like the rest of us that live down here; he has a sincere passion for his country and he wants to do more to help.”
Other staffers also supported Seagal, saying “He got really a taste of what we go through down here. We ran about 50 miles of the border and Deputy Seagal got a chance to meet the community and where he’s going to be working.” The statement was made by department spokesman Gary Fleming.
Though the Seagal camp was not available for direct comment, it is interesting to note that this development comes on the tail end of a similar project designed for TV. Specifically, Seagal currently stars in an A&E Network reality show following his experiences as a reserve deputy in New Orleans.
