Lee Daniels, director of “Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” to be feted with the “Hollywood Director Award” at Hollywood Film Awards

Carlos de Abreu, founder and executive producer of the 17th Annual Hollywood Film Awards, announced today that director Lee Daniels will be honored with the “Hollywood Director Award.” The honor will be bestowed at the Hollywood Film Awards Gala Ceremony on Monday evening, October 21st, 2013, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.
“It’s a great honor for us to recognize Lee’s outstanding work with this top directing honor of the year. His tremendous vision and versatility provides us with films that are both critical and box office successes,” said de Abreu.
The Hollywood Film Awards honors cherished stars, filmmakers, and up-and-coming talent, and traditionally kicks off the film awards season with the biggest stars and top industry executives in attendance. In 2000 Reid was named president and CEO of Arista Records and brought successes to the label by signing such multi-platinum artists as P!nk, Ciara and Avril Lavigne. Additionally, during his tenure at Arista he oversaw OutKast’s GRAMMY-winning album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below and executive produced Usher’s Confessions, which went on to win a GRAMMY and sell more than 10 million copies in the United States.

David O. Russell, director of “Silver Linings Playbook,” to be feted with the “Hollywood Director Award”

HollywoodNews.com: The 16th Annual Hollywood Film Awards, presented by the Los Angeles Times, is pleased to announce that writer and director David O. Russell will receive the “Hollywood Director Award” at this year’s gala.
“We are thrilled this year to honor director David O. Russell for his outstanding work and creative vision exemplified in his extraordinary new film, SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK,” said Carlos de Abreu, Founder and Executive Director of the Hollywood Film Awards.
The 2012 Hollywood Film Awards has also announced that it will honor Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro with the “Hollywood Supporting Actor Award,” Academy Award-winning actress Marion Cotillard with the “Hollywood Actress Award,” producers Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner with the “Hollywood Producers Award,” writer/director Judd Apatow with the “Hollywood Comedy Award,” actor John Hawkes with the “Hollywood Breakout Performance Award” for “The Sessions,” and Quvenzhané Wallis with the “New Hollywood Award” for “Beasts of the Southern Wild.” Other honorees include cinematographer Wally Pfister and visual effects supervisors Janek Sirrs and Jeff White. In addition, director Peter Ramsey’s “Rise of the Guardians” will be honored with the “Hollywood Animation Award,” along with additional honorees to be announced in the coming weeks.

Hollywood Film Awards to Honor “Rise of the Guardians” with the 2012 “Hollywood Animation Award”

HollywoodNews.com:The 16th Annual Hollywood Film Festival and Hollywood Film Awards, presented by The Los Angeles Times, have announced that DreamWorks Animation’s “Rise of the Guardians” will receive this year’s “Hollywood Animation Award” at the festival’s gala ceremony on October 22, 2012, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Directed by Peter Ramsey and written by Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire (“Rabbit Hole”), “Rise of the Guardians” is based on the highly acclaimed series of children’s books by William Joyce. Joyce, who won an Oscar® last year for his animated short “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore,” was named by Newsweek as “one of the top 100 people to watch in the new millennium. “Rise of the Guardians” stars the voice talents of Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher and Jude Law. Produced by Christina Steinberg and Nancy Bernstein and executive produced by Guillermo del Toro, Michael Siegel, and William Joyce, the DreamWorks Animation feature film will be released by Paramount Pictures on November 21st.

Rove McManus, Australia’s top talk show host and Tonight Show regular emceed the ceremonies.
Julie Andrews and Jodie Foster dedicated the 2012 ICG Publicist Directory to Arlene Ludwig, West Coast Director of Publicity, Motion Pictures, in celebration of her 50th anniversary at The Walt Disney Studios. The dedication struck an emotional chord since Ludwig is recovering from a serious fall that left her partially paralyzed.
In another touching moment, ICG President Steven Poster presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Carol Burnett. “It is my pleasure to present this award to someone I dearly admire and who continues to make me laugh to this day,” he said.
Oscar nominee Gary Oldman presented the Motion Picture Showmanship Award to David Heyman, producer of the Warner Bros. Harry Potter franchise. “This year, we honor the producer of the most successful film franchise of all time,” he said. “We’re delighted to recognize the person responsible for a collection of films that represents the best example of what can be accomplished with creative and smart publicity and promotion.”
David Stapf, President of CBS Television Studios, received the Television Showmanship Award. Josh Charles, of “The Good Wife,” who presented the award, said, “David, who is a former publicist, now heads a studio that broadcasts six of the top 10 drama series on television, including the CSI franchise and “The Good Wife.”
Missi Pyle, one of the stars of “The Artist,” presented the Press Award to Susan King of the Los Angeles Times. “The award this year goes to a reporter who captures the magic of Hollywood in her reporting while demonstrating her understanding and appreciation of its history.”
Oscar nominee Max Von Sydow presented the International Media Award to Elaine Lipworth of the United Kingdom. “The international media, particularly those based in Los Angeles, play an increasingly important role in creating awareness for American-made movies,” Sydow said. “It’s appropriate that we honor them here.”
Tony Angellotti, of the Angellotti Company, received the Les Mason Award, the highest honor paid a union publicist. “The recipient this year plans and executes publicity campaigns for films, filmmakers, production companies, industry events, including the Golden Globes and the Oscars,” said presenter Wendi McLendon-Covey, one of the stars of “Bridesmaids.”

Ray J comments on Whitney Houston’s passing

HollywoodNews.com: Ray J has been romantically linked to Whitney Houston over the years, and now that some time has passed since her death, he is commenting on the death of his good friend.
Ray J recently opened up about the late singer and the sadness he is feeling in losing a close friend, states UsMagazine.com. “Over the past few days, I’ve tried to process the emptiness that I am experiencing. What my heart feels cannot be expressed in words. The world lost an icon, but I lost my close friend,” Ray J commented.
“Your smile will live in my heart forever,” Ray J added.
He reportedly went to the Beverly Hilton Hotel after learning about Houston’s death last weekend.
