Star Wars Blu-ray early access App now available

By G. Clay Whittaker
Hollywoodnews.com: “Star Wars: The Complete Saga” will be available on Blu-ray in stores Sept. 16, right in time for some back-to-school marathons and end-of-summer drinking games. But if you can’t even wait that long, this treat for iDevice owners will make for hours of entertainment.
As part of the massive rollout for the “Star Wars” Blu-ray release, fans with iPhones and iPads can download a free app filled with tons of content to whet their appetites.
It’s great stuff for fans that want to go behind the scenes. Blu-ray isn’t really about the films; the die-hard fans are still wearing out that old VHS, and if they’ve upgraded to DVD they treat the disc with an archivists care. Blu-ray is about delivery potential for everything that makes for a richer experience: artwork, prop and costume scans, interviews and a lot of other gems worth investigating.
And the App is an accessible, touch-screen preview of all of that new material. Early screenshots look stellar, and the App is already available for iPad users (sorry iPhone, you have to wait until August 2). It’s a wonderful product for old fans and young ones alike, because a lot of this stuff just isn’t available anywhere.
Download on the iPad today, the iPhone in just a couple of weeks, and if you happen to be going to Comic-Con, they’ll have a display up at booth #3528 with iPads and the Blu-rays for a sample of what’s to come in September.

Spielberg talks “Jaws” Blu-ray in new interview

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: If you are a fan of Steven Spielberg, “Jaws” or both, this extensive interview is a must-read this morning.
Rabid “Jaws” fan “Quint” over at AICN scored a nearly-hour-long conversation with the Oscar-winning director in regards to the upcoming “Jaws” anniversary. And while the conversation gets in-depth about “Jaws,” it also touches on other Spielberg films as well as J.J. Abrams’ “Super 8,” which pays homage to Spielberg flms from the Amblin time period.
And more important, Spielberg revealed details about an upcoming “Jaws” Blu-ray, which will have fans salivating.
“I’ve already seen some of it. I don’t have a date yet, but there’s a Blu-Ray absolutely in the works,” the director told one of his biggest supporters.
“(In the future) there’s going to be no more digital enhancements or digital additions to anything based on any film I direct. I’m not going to do any corrections digitally to even wires that show,” he continued. “If ‘1941’ comes on Blu-Ray I’m not going to go back and take the wires out because the Blu-Ray will bring the wires out, that are guiding the airplanes down Hollywood Blvd. At this point right now I think letting movies exist in the era, with all the flaws and with all of the flourishes, is a wonderful way to mark time and mark history.”
It’s a great read. And now we have a “Jaws” Blu-ray to look forward to, as well as Abrams’ “Super 8,” out this Friday.

For says that the more “likes” one receives on their inspirational post, the larger their name will appear on the virtual wall. As more people contribute, the wall becomes more robust, and you can scroll through the wall to see what inspires other people.
Fans of the movie, meanwhile, will find Easter eggs hidden on the wall, including sneak peeks of the Blu-ray and DVD bonus features. It’s a great way to keep the conversation going on a film as it makes its way to home video. So visit the wall, and be sure to leave your personal pledge.

Angelina Jolie’s “SALT” to get Video App to Promote Blu-ray & DVD

hollywoodnews.com: Sony Pictures Home Entertainment announces the creation of a new video app based on the movie SALT.
The Compromise Your Friend app allows users to create and share a video that “outs” a friend as a spy. The app uses Facebook Connect to access images of friends who can then be humorously identified as a sleeper cell agent in a mock newscast that is cut together with scenes from SALT. The app is accessible through the SALT Facebook pageor the SALT website
Brian Harris, Creative Director at Bradley and Montgomery, who conceived and built the app on behalf of SPHE, says, “In a year that started with real Russian spies and ended with WikiLeaks posting classified information, we are talking about espionage more than anytime since the Cold War ended. How hard must it be to be a spy in the age of Facebook? We thought the idea of outing a Facebook friend as a spy – with, of course, some humorous touches – would be a fun way to celebrate the DVD/Blu-ray release of Salt.”
SALT is now on Deluxe Unrated Blu-ray and DVD and features two alternate endings not seen in theaters.
