Robin Williams to be Honored at “The Comedy Awards”

HollywoodNews.com: “The Comedy Awards,” the annual event dedicated to honoring and celebrating the world of comedy, announced today that Robin Williams will be honored as the recipient of the prestigious “Stand-Up Icon” award. This honor is bestowed each year to a modern icon, an individual who has made an extraordinary contribution to stand-up comedy and whose impact and innovations have changed the landscape and inspired future generations of entertainers. Williams will be honored for the unparalleled scope of his imagination, his repertoire of indelible characters, and his outstanding work as a stand-up comedian. Eddie Murphy was the inaugural recipient and he was presented with the honor by Tracy Morgan during last year’s show.
“Robin Williams is a comedic force of nature whose intensity and explosive free-associating style as a stand-up comedian made him a superstar,” said Casey Patterson, Executive Producer, “The Comedy Awards” and EVP, Event Production, Viacom Entertainment Group. “Academy Award-winner, beloved TV star and passionate activist, Robin used stand-up comedy to literally change the world with ‘Comic Relief.’ Robin Williams is more than an ICON…he is one of the most important comedic voices of our time. We’re thrilled, and just a little bit scared, to be honoring Robin at ‘The Comedy Awards’ this year.”
The “Stand-Up Icon” award will be presented during the taping of the event at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom on Saturday, April 28 and the show will premiere on COMEDY CENTRAL on Sunday, May 6. “The Comedy Awards” will also air on COMEDY CENTRAL’s international channels across Europe, New Zealand, India, Israel and Africa.
An Academy Award-winning actor and multiple Grammy-winning performer unparalleled in the scope of his imagination, Robin Williams began his career as a stand-up comedian, delighting audiences across the country with the beginnings of what would become his renowned repertoire of indelible characters. Throughout his legendary career as a star of stage and screen, Williams has returned to his stand-up roots, most recently with his critically-acclaimed, sold-out, “Weapons of Self Destruction” comedy tour during which Williams performed 90 shows in 65 cities in front of 300,000 fans across the U.S., as well as London and Canada.
Well known for his free-associative monologues and for pointing out life’s absurdities through his astute social and political observations, Williams’ previous comedy tour was in 2002. After a 16-year absence from the stand-up scene, he hit the road and toured [...]

Chelsea Handler on why she gives men a hard time

HollywoodNews.com: Chelsea Handler isn’t afraid of making fun of anyone, but even she will admit that she is particularly fond of being hard on men.
Handler feels like there is nothing wrong with cutting into men a little because of how easy she thinks they have had it in the past, states RadarOnline.com. “It’s because they’ve gotten a really easy ride,” Handler commented, adding that it isn’t about women being better than men.
“And it’s not that I think women should take over the world. But I do think it should be 50/50. I’m very much about letting other people shine,” Handler commented about her stance.

Howard Stern promises to not promote ‘America’s Got Talent’ on Leno

HollywoodNews.com: Howard Stern is apparently a very loyal David Letterman guest as he has promised the late night host that he will not be promoting his new gig on ‘America’s Got Talent’ on Jay Leno’s show.
Stern was on the show for Letterman’s 30-year anniversary show when he told him he would stay loyal to his good friend, states RadarOnline.com. “I’m not interested in going on Jay’s show. I’m probably the only idiot in show business who picks sides in these late night wars,” Stern commented.
However, Letterman is pretty convinced that Stern will have to end up on Leno’s NBC show: “I know you’re going on that show, [NBC] will pressure you and pressure you.”

“Bridesmaid” sequel could happen without Kristen Wiig?

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Sequels aren’t always a good idea. Here’s why.
Universal reportedly is contemplating a sequel to the massively successful “Bridesmaids,” a summer smash that somehow finds itself in the Oscar race (where comedies usually don’t compete, though to be fair, most comedies aren’t as funny as “Bridesmaids”). And why not, right? If “The Hangover” can earn a sequel, “Maids” deserves one, as well.
Except here’s the problem: Kristen Wiig isn’t involved. And the studio might move forward without her.
THR reports that Wiig and her co-writer Annie Mumolo aren’t interested in pursuing a sequel. “We are writing something else,” she tells the trade. But Uni remains optimistic about a sequel if they can get it right. “We are over the moon with the success of ‘Bridesmaids,’ and if we do a sequel we want to get it right,” a Universal rep tells THR. “We are talking to filmmakers now about concepts, and if the right one emerges, we’ll move forward.” The rumor would have a sequel focusing on Melissa McCarthy’s character, though I honestly couldn’t see the actress moving ahead on a sequel if Wiig wasn’t on board.
Judd Apatow weighed in via a statement, saying, “The key is we have to come up with an idea that is as good or better than the first one. We don’t want to do it unless it can be great. I don’t think anyone has had the brain space to think about it yet. Hopefully that can begin this year.”
Would you see a “Bridesmaid” sequel that didn’t have Wiig? Let us know in the comments section below.

Howard Stern gets ‘America’s Got Talent’ gig

HollywoodNews.com: Howard Stern will soon be taking on a very new role as he has landed a spot as a judge on ‘America’s Got Talent.’
Stern will be replacing Piers Morgan on the show after he decided to leave, states TMZ. Producers reportedly wanted Stern so badly that they did everything they could to get him despite the Parents Television Council thinking he was an inappropriate choice.
Now, the show will reportedly be moving to New York to work with the rest of Stern’s commitments.
Howie Mandel has already commented about how excited he is for the change: “I couldn’t be happier. As my Mom always says, you can never have enough Howies.”
Do you think Stern is the right choice?
